Basic Bimmercode Question -
I'm getting ready to buy Bimmercode. Are the backups stored on the device or in the cloud (Bimmercode account)? Just trying to figure out if I need to dedicate one device for coding or if I can install it on all my devices and use whichever one is handiest at the time.

On my phone (iPhone), my backups are kept in Files.. not in the "iCloud Drive" location but "On My iPhone." It doesn't look like there is a setting to change the location, either. If you have Android, you would likely have more control or be able to do something like a link that appears local to the app but is actually stored in a cloud location (I have no idea for Android, really though).
There is an option to "share files" right beneath "manage files" in the app, so you could accomplish what you want within the app but it would require an extra few steps. If you're on iPhone, I wonder if you could set up a Shortcut/Automation to copy those files to a cloud location when their time/date stamps change... along with one to refresh your local copy if the cloud ones are updated. You could then take that shortcut pair and duplicate it on all your devices and basically have what you want. I haven't used Shortcuts at all, though... not sure if that's possible. My BimmerCode Backups folder is automatically backed up to iCloud, despite being in the “On My iPhone” folder.
Only thing I can think is “On My iPhone” is more of a confirmation that those files are locally available at all times, rather than an indication they aren’t backed up. Last edited by MJBO; 06-24-2023 at 07:17 PM.. |
