Winter tire setup on 788m's?

I am wanting to use the stock 788m's as my winter rims and am finding the options for legit winter tires to be very limited (don't want performance winters as I would prefer better ice and snow traction for Canadian winters...)

I have heard great things about the viking contact 7's and am leaning in that direction, the only thing is I would have to run 255/35 square set up. I know that is cutting it close on the 10" wide rear rims.

Does anyone have experience with 255/35's on 10" rims? I remember seeing one picture and it seemed a bit stretched but probably doable.

Other option could be Nokians, rear would be 275/35 instead...

Hey from a fellow Canadian...I went with The Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 on the 788 and am very happy with them!

White

Toronto looks a lot different than I remember

Is your tire set-up square or staggered?

I also ran the Alpins on my F80 in Belgium. Winters not as bad as Canada but they performed well for me.

Good to know! No concerns with traction on snow and ice?

I just know that they will be a compromise on snow and ice compared to a full blown winter tire... and Edmonton probably has a bit worse winters.

Last winter I had 255 rear and 235 front ...it’s the max stretch but doable .

This winter I’m 255 fronts 275 rears.

I'm not a fan of the stretch or the huge sizes, but I understand there are no good stock options for the M2C.

I have to double check, but I believe the offsets of the F8x M2/M3/M4 front and rear wheels are basically identical when you correct for the wheel width. That means, you can run 4 "front" wheels and a square 245 setup if you don't want the stretch. The problem is that will obviously cost you the price of two extra front wheels.

One bargain setup that still looks nice (IMO) is four front 359M wheels from the E92 M3. The rear 359M do not fit, but the front are 9x19 ET31, that's only 2mm off the front 437 or 788 wheels. They are heavier, but OEM quality. If you can still find them for a low price it might make sense.

I have not driven an M2C in snow, but I've had various performance winter tires on 3 different cars now. I would probably opt for the full winter tires in Edmonton if you MUST drive when the roads are not clear and you don't have another car. The performance winters IMO are only good with limited amounts of snow. I will always use performance winter tires in NYC metro area, but if I lived somewhere with more snow I would switch.

That's what Im thinking, I'd rather be able to know I can take it out in any conditions and not be worried about getting stuck etc.

Thanks for the ideas on rims, I'm still thinking I'd rather keep the 788m's for winter and spend the money on some summers although those 359m's would probably look good in black with my spec!!

What tires did you have last winter? Any pics of the 255 rear showing amount of stretch?

Nope, I didn't have any concerns whatsoever! Had a great time driving around snowy roads

I ran 255/35/19 on 19x10 for last 4 year

I wouldn’t go anything narrower. Is really stretching it

Hmm good to know, do you have any pictures? Any issues with rim being exposed too much and getting damaged or chipped?

I'm looking for some winter tires to use on the stock 788M.
You mention you used Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s on the stock rim.... could you enlighten us on the size you put on?

Did you have any rubbing? I've read in different threads that the front tires rub using the 245/35/R19 on the 788M rims because the Michelin winter tires are just a fraction higher then stock summer tires....

I like the 788M design and would just like to switch tires summer/winter....
