General Tires
So I recently installed 4 OEM General G-Max RS tires to replace my Michelin PS4's. These are a brand new tire by General having just come out about 18 months ago.
I was looking for a low cost Ultra High Performance tire and thus far, they have been great. After pushing the car a bit yesterday, I honestly could not tell any difference between the PS4's and the Generals. Except in the wallet. After a $70 rebate from General, the 4 cost $699. I mean, how can you beat that price - this from Tirerack.com - Rudy's the best btw Just wanted to pass this along as these are some tough times and every little bit helps right now. |

General does make good tires. I have put them on our trucks and was very happy with them.

Wondering how they would fair against Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 and how they would hold up for light track duty vs MP4s..

You are lucky that you could get new tires installed. We have all non essential businesses closed. The tire shops can only replace a non repairable tire or plug a flat right now in my area.

Tire shops are essential in MA and was going to order General G-Max RS for my non-BMW at my local chain tire shop but instead I decided to try a well regarded mobile tire shop that will come to my home. Pretty small premium and I like to support a local family run business (not to mention they show a LBB M2 with 763M wheels on their web site).

Is it hot in NC now?
I tried to save money in the past and got the highly praised Hankooks. Reviews had them compared to MPSS. My personal experience has been very different since I live in PNW and the weather here is typically around 20 celsius. My theory is that those tires perform well in higher temperatures. MPSS or PS4S work in all temperatures. |

I had the generals and the hankooks on my 335i coupe. Both great tires for DD. But the one reason I wouldn't put them on My M2 is because the Michelin PSS make the M2 look amazing. The sidewalls are so much more beefy looking. Is it worth 1200 bucks amazing IMO yes. But to each his own.

Really good bee - like them so much that I just put a set on my wife's Subaru CrossTrek - she likes them as well.
Imho, a very underrated tire which is actually a misnomer as ConsumerReports rates General Tires very high in every way - tread life, wet/dry handling and how quiet they are. My picture is not the greatest as the tire shows agressiveness from the side that did not come through very well in my pic. *Very* inexpensive tire as well. |

Was your basic no brainer at least for me. And, the tires that I switched from to the Generals? The PS4's. I saw zero difference when new. Paid $770 for 4 from the TireRack - Rudy helped me as always - also at the time, had a $70 rebate gift card. I can tell you one more thing - I had the Michelin SS's when I bought the car at 3500 miles - 1st time in the rain? Off they came - Generals and PS4's massive upgrade in every way from the SS's. Thank you, tranck, for the awesome suggestion. I just got a set of General G-Max RS's installed yesterday evening, based on this recommendation. I've already put in ~100 miles on the tires, and here's what I would have to say about them: 1. FANTASTIC performance / cost ratio. Roughly half the price of MPS4S's! 2. For DD duties, I can see how these tires would be superior to MPS4S's - my understanding is that they offer much longer tread life, and for typical street driving, I really can't tell the difference 3. However, for very spirited driving - hammering in the canyons - I would say that there's a very noticeable difference in handling quality. Tirerack's own review states: "The G-MAX RS was much livelier, with strong front-end authority and a tendency to rotate under power and through transitions. Strong traction helped to keep everything under control, but the tire felt quite twitchy when pushed. Fortunately, short stopping distances succinctly brought the speeds down when necessary." That is exactly how I would put it. If you like to drive like a hooligan, the MPS4S's offer much more precise handling - the G-Max RS's do feel, somehow, twitchy under WOT But, overall, a really fantastic tire, especially at this price point! |
