The DS2500 is currently the best hybrid track/street pad on the market. It features the moderately high bite and solid fade resistance of a track pad, with the relatively low dust and noise levels of a street pad. When used as a street pad, it can produce some squeal on certain vehicle platforms. During aggressive driving the DS2500 is known for its flat torque curve, which means as temperatures go up, the response through the brake pedal remains consistent. If you drive aggressively on the street, do some canyon runs, autoX, and maybe some light track duty on street tires, the DS2500 is tough to beat.
When used on fast, heavy cars on the track with race tires, pad wear rates tend to be higher than some of the full track pad compounds. Under those conditions, Essex would recommend the Ferodo DS3000 or DS1.11. Front: FCP4611W Rear: FCP4663H |

Dig the DS2500 for very light track duty and for street/canyon. Great pad. However, the grip really falls off with even moderate, sustained temperature increases. I didn't want to have to start swapping pads, since I like minimal maintenance work between track events, but I think I'll need to order some DS1.11 and swap with the DS2500. I'm used to a track-prepped Miata, which can get away with near-dual-duty pads like R4, ST43, DS2500, etc. My square M2C is super agile and tossable, but still a relatively heavy car on track. I'm not a hero driver, but I run consistently under 1:25 at Streets of Willow, well under 2:00 at Buttonwillow 13CW, 1:20 on ACS Interior course, etc. and the stock pads, then the DS2500 are really forcing me to leave a lot of time on the table. At least there's no rebedding or need for separate rotors with the Ferodo options. I'd order only the fronts, but since I'm on a square setup, I think I'd regret not having the same pads on front and rear.

We recommend using the same compound front and rear unless you have experienced premature rear ABS activation with your particular setup. Something to keep in mind later when you are ready for rotors is to upgrade to a true 2-piece with more cooling vanes from Paragon Brakes or Girodisc. PM, email or call us if you have any other questions. |
