m235i is 3505 lbs with the manual. 1530kg = 3373 lbs.

Might be a US vs European weight difference. BMW uk here shows us 1530kg

I for one would much rather have the 50 plus HP and extra strength of the S55 along with the extra 25 lbs. 2HP/lb seems like a pretty good trade off.

You would get the same power numbers with either engine. They're not going to completely cannabalize sales of the m4. Unless you planned on trying to push more power out with mods in which case you would have a valid point. I don't plan on pushing the motor so it doesn't matter what they throw under the hood to make their number.

I'll take a punt as say whether it includes or excludes the fluids from the weight calc.

Yup it's this, fluids etc etc maybe driver never sure. Countless bimmerpost threads on it in the past. Just though it was a coincidence that one posters target weight was exactly the current M235i. Although that was EU weight.

Only time will tell how much weight she loses!

I think the front is pretty much spot on this time around, if you compare with the renderings in the other thread it's very close.

If you look at the picture showing the bumper. It says "Autocar Image". So it's likely just an old rendering from one of Autocar's articles.

that 3373lb weight is likely false. that was the curb weight of the 135 (exactly 3373 lbs) so that number is likely recycled.

BMW is going to be dropping into a full fight when the M2 comes out. GT350, RS3, CLA45 AMG...all new models at the same time in the same price range.

Scott26 has posted that the M2 "concept" will be debuted in Frankfurt at this time, with production starting in November, 2015 and NA sales in spring or early summer, 2016.

That suggests that intro of the production M2 could well happen at the Detroit NAIAS in January, 2016. The timeline coincides with the M235i production launch in Detroit in January this year.

One wonders how much the "concept" would deviate from production, and whether this is an attempt not to steal the limelight from the new 7 launch at Frankfurt.

Saw it this morning too. >500hp, >400 torque.. High revving flat crank v8 (you all have been crying when M3 lost its high revving v8).

Looks like Boss replacement to me, tuned to 11..

I won't deny that there's a good chance that car will destroy everything in BMW's lineup, but it's just not the type of car I'm looking for. First of all, the thing is huge (one of the reasons I didn't go for an F80 in the first place), and some of the interior bits are pretty horrible (I know some people might not care about that).

I'm looking for something like an E36 M3 replacement, which the M2 fits the bill. I'm also expecting the GT350 to be $60k plus? Which is out of my budget for now. I will say that I thought the GT's looked way better in real life though. The pics thankfully did not do them justice.

The GT350 just became a serious contender.
I agree about the size though. It is way bigger than what I really want, which is why the M2 will probably win out.

Deciding factors:
Price of both
Can I live with the size of the GT (I'm coming from a 135, so I like small).

But did you hear the sound at the end of that video? If that's what it really sounds like, that could seal the deal by itself.

And I agree that the M2 had really better deliver the goods, because the competition at release time will be insane! If they dumb it down to preserve M4 market share, they will lose much of the war.
