Issues with the leather seat

Anyone had any issues with the leather seat?

Only had the car for 6 months and already a scruff mark on my seat.
Anyone know a good repair method?

Have you tried talking to your dealer to see if covered by warranty? Unless you have driven 75k plus miles in those 6 months or scrape it daily with a razor blade, that wear is not "normal" for a 6 month old car. Have had luck getting this covered by warranty once before on a BMW.

I have the same issue and I was certain my dealer would cover it, since my service advisor was a former classmate but the manager ultimately said no

It seems like leather replacement is approved on a case by case basis, since I heard varying results.

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...-seat/ByCpmmNy

I bought some black dye online and fixed it myself.

I also coded the comfort easy entry/exit seats retraction to help a bit in reducing future wear.

I only have few thousand miles. I talked to the service folks and going in tomorrow for them to look. I told them if I had my car for more than a year I will understand but I had this since June. (ok so less than 6 months) Leather shouldn't be this weak. Previous M3's seats took a beating and was relatively fine and didn't any repairs on them.

I have this exact same problem, my car has been assessed by BMW and is going into service next week for a remedy.

Wow that is nuts. I thought that the Merino leather in the F80 was more supple and thus less durable than the Dakota leather in the M2C...My F80 seats looked brand new after 22K miles and three years, and I'm expecting the same with the M2C.

Of course, I'm not a heavyweight and I am well-practiced at the "art" of the butt-first at 90 degree angle (bypassing the bolster) and then rotating legs into the the cabin...

I doubt it will be covered, but you have a chance given your low miles. If not, given how close the damage is the blue stitching, personally I'd pay for a professional to touch up that area.

Wow, that looks like 5 years old or more...

Are you dragging jean studs across it when you get in?

Personally I hold the steering wheel as I get in to swing in clear of the seat bolsters, mine are completely as new after 1 year and should be after 5 years with any luck...

I'm not dragging my jeans when I get in. I'm very aware of how I'm going in and out. My old M3, same thing. Never had any issues what so ever. Before that the STI with the alcantara/leather seats, never had issues.

And like KevinM, I too practice the 90 degrees butt first. Not even because of the bolster, just because I have back issues and that is the best way for me to get in and out my car.

With that said, stopped by the dealership this morning. They looked at it and they were also surprised. They are going to replace it for me. Will get parts ordered. Thanks for everyone's responses.

Awesome news! Nice to hear a story where the dealer stepped up to the plate.

Time to start being more careful about how I get into my car! My 350Z has a rip in the upholstery right there, so i know i normally make contact with the bolster when I get in and out (Z is a one owner car.)

I figured the leather in the Bimmer would be more durable, but it looks like i'm wrong. Dang.

Nobody wants to hear this but, if we are being honest, the interior of the M2C is rather 'cheap.'

With specific regard to the seats, they fulfill their sporty purpose, but the leather is 'really cheap.'

The M2C is all about performance, not quality amenities. BMW delivers on performance with the M2C, but delivering so much performance for the money comes at a cost. . . all the quality, non-performance 'parts.'

The M2C maxed out $67K price tag is all about performance for the money. Toward this end, not many forum members seem too enthusiastic about the suggested price of the forthcoming M2CS - with upgrades seeming to offer relatively little in terms of improved overall performance. You get what you pay for and, with the M2C, you are paying for performance.

Agreed!

This just seems like low quality leather grade. No way in hell should it look that way so soon!

Agreed! . . . but I think BMW is saving the CONSUMER money. If they offered ‘next level’ quality leather, then the price tag jumps.

The M2C is one of the best PERFORMANCE cars for the money. If you want quality leather, non-plastic dash and other interior parts, quality carbon fiber . . . well, then the maxed out $67K M2C quickly becomes a $90K sport car.

In fact, it appears they already have a name for it - the M2CS which, again, seems few are particularly enthused about shelling out the $$$ toward.

Not disagreeing that M2C is about the performance
but leather shouldn't be that weak. When BMW called to get feedback from me, I talked about the seats for awhile with the guy taking survey from me. Performance is great, but the seat needs to be comfortable and durable to enjoy the performance for a long time.

Agree. However, BMW's less expensive leather (like all leather) tends to be much more durable than then their more supple, expensive leather. Of my cars, the leather that requires the most maintenance (by far!) is the Nappa Heritage leather in my 2002 E39 M5. It still looks great this many years later but it takes work. It is like a fine couch however - truly supple smells great. The Nappa leather in my Z4M coupe requires the second most amount of maintenance, but much less. It is less supple, but that is fine given the purpose of the car. The Merino leather in my previous F80 seemed indestructible - I didn't do anything to it other than periodic cleaning for 3 years and it still looked new. The Dakota leather in the M2C is theoretically a step lower (seems fairly similar to me) and so I expected the most durability. I suppose the OP's problem could be a defect in the stitching since the damage is so close to that. Anyway, knock on wood, I have the same mileage/months on my car and so far the bolster still looks new.
