M2C comes in last on Car and Driver comparo (GT350 / Supra / Cayman / M2C)

Looks like the M2 lost to some competitors in order.

1. GT350
2. Supra
3. Cayman
4. M2

They praised the M2 for its engine, slick 6 speed, relative comfort, space and view out. Dinged the steering and brakes. On the bright side it was one of the fastest hitting 60 in 4 seconds and falling behind the GT350 only in triple digit speeds.

I'm kinda surprised it didn't finish ahead of the Supra, but the others don't surprise me at all. That's some tough competition. I wonder what would have happened if they through a Z4 into the mix.

The Cayman base is simply not exciting enough vis a vis the M2C for everyday driving. On the track sure.

Mustang is a boat a la M3.

Don't know WTF the Supra is...

1. GT350 - You love american build quality? If so, go for it.
2. Supra - Butt ugly front end w/ $20k mark up? Sure.. no thanks.
3. Cayman - Great car. Significantly higher cost of ownership though.
4. M2 - Hence, M2 is still the answer for me in this segment.

My personal preference:
1. Cayman: mid engine is just an advantage you can't ignore, real sports car
2. M2: balance and sound, handles really well, cheap interior but a sports car
3. GT350: really loud American pony that looks cheap, handles well for a boat
4. Supra: hardtop Z4 that has a really ugly front, not a sports car

My list:
1) GT350 because of racecar feel, lap times, and the pull past 6000rpm
2) M2c. Barely because of disappointing exhaust note ruining otherwise superb experience
3) Supra due to good light weight chassis and high aftermarket support for more power
4) Cayman. because if I can have 8 or even 6 cylinders for similar price, why would I settle for 4?

You do know that the M2 is relatively the same weight as the M3.

One can say the Supra is more of a sports car than the M2 since it doesn't have a back seat...

Of course but given the overall dimensions the M3 "feels" like you're driving a living room.

Cayman is base model with a 4 pot. Sound and lag under 2000 is a deal killer even though the mid engine layout is superior on the track. The street, not so much...

I can see them dinging the steering, which isn't Porsche sharp but certainly is better than the rather distant and numb Mustang, but the brakes, really? Unless the M2C is for some reason worse than the OG, I think the brakes are typical BMW-excellent.

I agree, the Cayman would/should have won if not for the 4-cylinder. Back when it was a 6, it was the pinnacle of sports car greatness.

I’ve driven all except for the supra…

Take out the Supra I agree with C&D, although aesthetically I prefer the M2 by far

I drove one last week and I can tell you that lag is virtually nonexistent. It's almost impossible to drive those cars without getting into the boost because it comes on just above idle at even small throttle openings. It's actually a very torquey engine.

I also liked the sound. One of the best 4-cylinder turbo exhausts I've ever heard.

To me that's how the S felt, the base not so much. Lag was clear under 2000 rpm.

its because the S has VTG, variable turbine geometry.
