I owned a car for 7 and a half years once, traded it in on my first BMW. I've intended on keeping all of my BMW's for a long time, but I haven't made it to 3 years yet with any of them (6 years, 6 months, 4 BMW's). This one has, certainly, been my favorite car I've had in a very long time when it comes to the actual driving part, despite the DCT. For other reasons, I've thought long and hard about trading it in on something else, but I haven't found anything I'm sure I want more.

Maybe I'll make it to 3 years this time...and I hope the OP finally gets into his car and enjoys it!

Wow just read this whole thread and it sounds like an absolute nightmare! I'm glad you're close to resolving it Cannondale900. I hope it all works out for you in the end. I'll be following along to see the happy ending!

Yeah after 8 years it wouldn't matter much. My last car I expected to keep for 10 years. I ended up selling it after 3 years. People change their minds about cars...often
I mean would you really pay less for a car that had it's motor replaced at 550 miles 8 years ago? At that point what's the risk? Seems like the bugs would have been sorted out by then....

I do not have the cause of failure yet but I received some screen shots of the work order yesterday. The work was performed at the BMW branch in Munich which is about 1.5 miles northeast of BMW Welt. A healthy list of part numbers on the work order and you can believe I looked up every one of them (I love this stuff, what can I say).

It appears that the approach was to take a bare long-block (though BMW calls it a "short engine" in the ETK) and swap over all existing accessories which include things like alternator, a/c compressor, fuel delivery, ignition, intake parts, etc. It also looks like every part through which oil flowed was replaced (e.g. turbos and related lubrication lines, oil cooler and related lines, etc). It appears new bolts, gaskets, and o-rings were used for all one-time use applications (e.g. intake and exhaust gaskets, transmission bolts, driveshaft bolts, fuel injectors, a/c lines, etc). All of the above is what I was expecting and/or hoping to see. I did see a part number for the bare long-block that has given me brief pause. P/N 11002455341 is listed on the work order which is described as an "exchange short engine". I believe this represents a new motor with my core being received in exchange which reduces the overall price of the part. Just to be sure I have asked BMWNA to verify my car received a new motor and not a reman.

I've also received confirmation that my asks have been approved.
1) Reimbursement for expenses incurred a) for things we did not participate in/enjoy b) to modify travel plans, and c) for phone charges to communicate with BMW
2) 7yr/100k mile platinum warranty
3) M perf coil-overs
4) 763M wheels in frozen gold (I'll powdercoat if I ultimately don't like the color)
5) M perf steering wheel with display
6) M perf open pore carbon fiber steering wheel cover
7) M perf car cover (which may be NLA now after re-reviewing p/n)
8) All items I did not have a chance to take while in Europe arrive with the car (e.g. warning triangle, plates, first aid kit, etc)

I think the ship is expected to arrive at port in NJ around 10/31. If BMW confirms new motor and the work is neat and satisfactory upon visual inspection at the dealer then this is the route I'm planning on taking.

I think you have done well. That's basically a new motor and a lot of "make it right" Money thrown in. I especially like the warranty. Kudos to both you and BMW for how the situation was handled.

I'm trying to not count my chickens before they hatch but I believe everyone has been on the up and up so far. I will be happy to sing everyone's praises when the car shows up with a trunk full of parts and warranty paper work is signed.

I'll share my final calculus when all is said and done but I keep my cars an average of 8 years and have no reason to think my ownership of the M2C would be any different.

The car was dropped off at Loginout in Munich yesterday and was dispatched to Bremerhaven with 622 miles on the odo. I last left it in Prague on Sept 1 with 557 miles so I assume there was some testing after repairs were completed, including the drive to Loginout. I expect an e-mail on Monday from Loginout with details for tracking the vessel, etc.

The dealership and BMWNA know that my acceptance of a repaired vehicle is predicated on certain items, including my satisfactory review of the work order and documentation of such work to the vehicle's records.
I think I saw your car at Loginout when I dropped mine off the morning of 10/9 (M 1098 Z plate?) - I was parked a couple cars down.

I remember noticing that the license plate had an expiration date of 9/23/19 and thinking "hopefully this means a few of these cars have been sitting here a while and the truck to pick up for Bremerhaven is on it's way," thus making my wait most likely shorter.

Good luck with the rest of the ordeal, OP - you're handling it much better than I would have.

That's the one! How did it look? I last left her on 9/2 in Prague.

.....also was just down in STL for Gallagher soccer tourney.......would have loved the M2C for that little road trip. Instead I cracked a wheel on my E61 on the way down. OnSite wheel repair hit it out of the park for me on a Saturday at the last minute and I was able to get home Sunday without issue.

Confirmed with BMW customer relations and BMW field technician that motor is new, just used the p/n to indicate my core was being exchanged.

Reimbursement check arrived today and dealership is beginning the process of ordering the parts and warranty paperwork.

I was skewing more towards you getting a new car but when you mentioned all the freebies they threw in to make it right, I changed my tune.

Congratulations and nice take; I say you came out ahead. Maybe you should extend the maintenance agreement to match the lengthy warranty coverage. I just got a new battery covered after 3 and 1/2 years, so it can be worth it and services will be done at the dealer.

Very happy to hear about the positive progress!

Please post some pics of the car upon delivery and let us know if all is good.

Praying that it will be 🙏

Congratulations on getting through this all and sharing your story with the forum. I know a lot of us have been following your saga. I also agree that I think you made out well with your requests for resolution and am glad to see BMW trying to make it right.

For what it's worth, I had to have the engine rebuilt in my 2005 WRX (surprise!) at 30k miles, and it now has 193k on it with zero issues since then heavily modified, so fingers crossed you get the same longevity out of your new engine.

We all know you'll enjoy the car. Hope you get it soon after it arrives at port.

Looked great! Took a couple pictures of it when we were dropping off ours.

Small world on the Scott Gallagher soccer tourney, I have numerous cousins who are involved in the Gallagher soccer club, and an uncle that works at their soccer park off i44.

I'm terrible at attaching pictures to my posts, so hopefully that worked. Sorry to hear about your wheel, but at least OnSite took care of you, and at least it wasn't a cracked wheel on the new M2C!

Glad BMW is taking care of your situation. Looks like you are taking the car rather than getting a new one. I think its a sweet deal!

Only issue I have is the 100k mile warranty. Since we are on this forum 90 percent of us do not leave the engine stock. So once you start modding that 100k warranty starts being questionable.

My thoughts exactly, but as someone else mentioned - because Europe! I parked mine myself, leaving plenty of room between it and the car next to her - I'm sure it was immediately moved to be 6 inches away from the others shortly after though

Very happy that things seem to be working out. I think the measured approach you've take both with all of the parties involved and with our little enthusiast community here have paid dividends for you.

How cool is it that you got to sort of check on your car by the chance encounter of another forum member identifying your car on the other side of the world and taking a pic...that's just outstanding!

As for the closeness of the cars parked next to you, as others have said, that's how we roll here in Europe, making the mirrors fold is not driven by the US market!

I think the main reason they are parked so close at this locations is that it is a staging area for shipping cars to the port so they need to maximize capacity.

I moved to Germany a year ago for a 3 year work assignment, and picked up a used '17 M2. I live in the Stuttgart area now, and went to Munich to pick up my car from a BMW employee. The car culture here is pretty awesome.

I'm sorry you missed out on some cool parts of ED, but I'm glad to see BMW is doing everything they can to make it right.

You will have to come back to experience the Nordschleife. I think it's every car junkie's bucket list item, and you just need to come back to do it. 1 week. Nothing else matters, and dive a car that's even better suited. Plenty of options from RSR Nurburgring or similar. I know you missed out on a Touristenfahren but please believe me what I say you want NEED to experience Nordschleife in an organized track day, not a tourist day. No bikes, no vans, far less crowded and much more fun. Even so, Nordschleife is the most treacherous track in the world and even in this format there were 3-4 accidents during the day. But they kept the track open and jjust yellow flagged some sections. So not at all a bad idea to risk someone else' car.

P.S. Here is a lap from the Ring in my OG M2 last July. I have a 7:55 lap time goal, and right now I'm at 8:38, but I have 2 more years to make it, and I will.
