"Almost 100 miles" First Impressions
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Ordered it mid May and it hit the dealer on Thursday. My CA got it all ready for me and Saturday I picked it up. I had never seen the color before other than in pics and videos and neither do it justice. It has great presence. The paperwork took about 20 minutes, and the only thing the business manager pushed hard for was the windshield and dent/scratch package which I declined. Car had 7 miles on it. OK so I got it out on the road with wifey and she remarked that the ride wasn't too harsh. Nice. Exhaust.. hmm I hear a lot of complaints about it. It's fine. Sounds good. Actually a bit obnoxious in Sport Plus but easily remedied to keep the neighbors from waking up. Unfortunately, I park right below our bedroom and cold startup is LOUD. Seats... I really like them. I was most worried about comfort but they are great. I have back issues and I feel better in them than in X5 and my herman miller aeron chair. Motor.. pulls hard, love it.. when the car is not throwing Drivetrain errors. DCT.. same thing, love it, I did manage to get it to buck a bit on a first gear in manual turn from a stop. in auto mode it is smooth so far. shifting in manual is fun up and down, much better than in the x5 with the 8speed ZF in sport and sport shifting. Interior is ok, not great, it's BMW familiar. I like the weave. handling - tires not broken in but even at half limit it feels great. responsive, great turn in, great grip. the reviews are all spot on. can't wait til break in. Was having such a good drive this AM when it popped the second Drivetrain Malfunction error in under 100 miles. looks.. I think it looks great and it does get heads turning on the street and in the parking lot. issues: well, I got two drivetrain malfunction errors in under 100 miles so something is wrong with it. Gotta take it back in. I'll tell you, it really takes the luster off the experience. You work hard and drop big coin you want to have at least a few miles of honeymoon afterglow.. nope, not me.. @%! EDIT: First they thought it was a fuel rail pressure sensor, now they are replacing Bank 2 HPFP... Car is due back Thursday the 25th.. Another EDIT: Got back from vacation, car was fixed, picked it up straight from the airport, and it's been fine since. lots of smiles now! the other thing that bugs me is the old BMW (and many other makers but BMW more so) orange peel paint issue. I wish they could overcome this. color is beautiful, but would be so much better if it wasn't orange peeled so bad. minor nits: cheap key fob.. cheap sun visor, lack of gauges (have to scroll the info button to get oil temp, no coolant temp, oil pressure, etc), annoying to program garage door opener (this is a BMW joy not specific to this car). Also miss my HUD. I realize these are the things you have to give up when buying a car based on the entry level 2 series but given the price of this thing, I think they could do better on a bunch of these items.. Overall, I'd rate it a 6/10. if it didn't have orange peel and didn't error on me it would be an 8. maybe 9. hopefully they can resolve the errors. if not, I'm going to lemon this thing, get something cheap, then buy a C8 when they are available.

meanwhile I gotta be honest, the new C8 looks awesome. I've spent a lot of time configuring and watching videos. My wife said it's like a guy about to get married and some hot available chick comes along...
so what does the M2C do? has a breakdown on our honeymoon night. meanwhile hot chick is outside sunbathing

it really is. has great presence these pics don't do it justice and it's great to drive when it's not popping Drivetrain Malfunction errors every 40 miles..
love the color.

Update:
Monday: Get a call from BMW SA - needs a new fuel rail pressure sensor.. Tuesday: Testing still showed pressure issues, now need a new Bank 2 HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump). Will call me back Thursday. very disappointed in the BMW factory here.. new car, broken HPFP, I'm assuming right out of the box, it just took some relatively brisk acceleration to expose it.. how is it that after a decade they still have HPFP issues? my E92 335 HPFP broke at 14K miles, this one didn't even last 40. might as well get an alfa

which makes me wonder if that is the real issue or they are just guessing and this ultimately ends with "need a new engine"

Congrats bud! Think both of ours were on the same vessel THEMIS From Cali too. I'd be pissed too if I already had drivetrain malfunction codes. Hopefully everything gets squared away.

Wow.. ok just read the rest of the thread and this worries me. You're right this is absolutely unacceptable! I have 240miles on so far and no issue but worries me when it's time to mod. Lemon that thing if you're not satisfied with the end result. Keep us posted OP good luck

You should see it in person. In my opinion it looks great, but 99% of the pictures do not capture the amount of green on any monitor or phone I have looked them with, including 2 calibrated.

Just got back from two weeks vacation, picked car up first thing after landing.. seems to work now, no more malfunctions!
have to admit, I love driving the car. hate getting behind horse haulers on a nice twisty county road but it gives me time to contemplate the universe. the brakes are a bit grabby at low speeds have to get used to that. also it's not great starting off in manual mode on a turn, not that smooth. but it sure is fun to dip into the power and power out of turns you toss yourself into. and it looks great. parked next to a HS at the gym today, have to admit, I like my LBB better but HS is nice.

The grabby brakes thing seems to be hit or miss in my sample size of exactly two. The Mtown road show LBB M2C with DCT I drove had grabby brakes. My M2C does not. Maybe its just LBB's with DCT? |
