I don’t see the M2 Competition and the Corvette as rivals, even if the base C8 is close in price.

One is a high performance German sports coupe.

One is a super high performance racer boy image sports car.

I’d love to be a race car driver, but I don’t need to look like one every day.

No offense meant, it’s just not for me.

They really are completely different demographics. GM has been trying to shed that midlife crisis/retiree image the Corvette has gained over the last four decades. I think secretly they don’t care who buys their car other than when they demonstrate the C8 fitting two golf bags, it’s still an indication they’re aiming for the same old demographic.

will be interesting to see how this impacts the market. personally, I was looking at corvette builds the night before picking up my M2C.

Don't be too sure of that.

If I were a Cayman shopper I would wait and see...

The crazy console with 300 buttons is just there to distract you from the 1980's shape 2 spoke steering wheel.

Might seem like a good competitor on paper till at the end of the day you realize you're buying a chevrolet and there are 200 of them within 10 square miles. I literally cannot drive a day in DFW, TX without seeing 2-3 vettes even if I'm just going 10 mins down the road to the store.

Yeah, considering that you'd need a Cayman S to even begin to compete with the C8. I have a feeling that the new design of the C8 could begin to change the Corvette owner stereotypes.

I can tell you how Porsche will respond, they will raise the prices of "options" even more!

Whether any of us here buy a new Vette or not, I don't see any way this car isn't an awesome development for the enthusiast. Strong competition improves other makers products whether we individually cross shop them or not

Personally, I can't get past the old-school LS motor carry over. It's a great, reliable, supported, cam in block v8 that can take a large amount of HP, but there's no "new" excitement there for me. That said, If there's follow-on powertrain upgrades in the next year or 2, I might consider as a weekend toy

When I'm done with the M2, I'm going to take a hard look at the C8. As mentioned by other posters, I think this car is going to make other cars better too. From a pricing/tech perspective this car is real hard to beat.

They just did with the 992. My dealer invited me down to test drive and spec a new 992 out. There was a couple of reasons I didn’t go with another 911 this time as Porsche is tailoring the new 911 similar to the M850i. It’s bigger with more of a computer controlled feel. The new exhaust particulate filter really quiets even the performance exhaust option.
The overall design element and construction has pushed beyond the typical classic 911 formula and not in a positive way.

For example rear exhaust outlets.

I'm not a Vette guy, or Chevy for that matter - the Fit and Finish , but what a deal at $60k.

Could be one heck of a track car!

What about it makes you think it won't be the same buyers as the last 7 generations?

I am seriously considering selling my 2018 MT M2 to get the new Vette...if only it was a MT. It will be my first American car ever.

Honestly, the camaro handles a bit better than the M2C but the interior of the camaro is a deal breaker as a daily driver for me - everything about it is cheap but the seats, which are great. Even though it is relatively spartan by modern lux car standards, the M2C's interior is miles ahead of the Camaro. Plus, the M2C is more of a "fun" hooligan street car than the Camaro.

However, the camaro is hooked up if you want a great, cheap track car - awesome suspension, good brakes and tires, amazing transmission and eLSD. Still - the M2C may be the best DD at its price point around if you like 2 door go fast cars that are "reasonably" priced. Plus, the M2C makes me smile more. Its weird and I can't explain it, but I get more compliments on the M2C than any car I have ever owned other than the Viper.

The GT4 is organic and amazing, it could be a DD without the LWB seats and a few of the luxury options checked. However, I do not like my daily beaters to approach or exceed $100k. I feel bad when I put too many miles on them around town. And yes, I will likely buy a C8 in a couple of years when the Grand Sport comes out. Why the hell not?!

As a current Cayman owner, I would never trade my car in for this c8 or any corvette for that matter despite them being “faster.” I don’t dislike it, but I’d never want to own it either.

There’s more to it than just the numbers on paper. What level of service will you receive at GM vs Porsche? Whats the build quality like? What’s the community like with other owners of the same car? What’s the stigma? Would you want to be seen in it? Just my 2 cents.

Excellent points and I agree with you.

As a 991.1 & 991.2 owner I can counter with bang for the buck therefore as I said, wait and see where the dust settles. If the reliability is there (big if with new DCT) and maintenance is cheaper (again, big if) I personally can put up with stigma and lower build quality.

On stereotypes only time will tell, personally I don't care what others think. There are two chaps in my office that have put on hold their p-car plans to see this new vette. They may very well buy their 992s but I can guarantee you they were not even considering a C7.

Well, i am waiting to see one in person. I think it looks kind of odd in pictures, like the proportions are way off. At the end of the day $60K is a good amount of money for any car. However, i want to see where they cut costs because $60K for a mid engine car, really is cheap.
