M2 Got into 2 Accidents in 3 weeks.

Ladies and Gents,

So a few months back my car got hit twice in a 3 week span, both of which were not my fault.

Got rear ended at a stop yield sign and then t boned as a woman was backing out of her parking space.

The car got fixed to what I would feel is about 98%. There are a couple areas that aren't perfect but it's my OCD that I notice.

Fast forward a few months and I was driving in a snow storm and had two big ice chunks drop onto my roof putting two small dents in the roof.

The car looks good, but as the owner and someone who wants things perfect, I notice all the little dings and chips all over the car (NO PPF. Ugh what a regret not getting it). That, and the fact that the whole passenger side had to get resprayed to make sure the paint matched.

Who else has had gotten into accidents, and had their love repaired?

My Fiancee thinks I'm caring too much about it. I feel like the car is tainted.

Those wheels would definitely bother me. I would get them repaired or replaced.

These look like small items. One looks like PDR, and that rim is easily repaired. Get it done and move on and enjoy the M2

File a diminished value claim and keep on enjoying your car. You can drive it like you stole it because you don't have to worry about keeping the car in perfect condition anymore, it's already not so perfect.

Didn't know that was a thing. I'm going to look into that.

Yes, most states let you claim the reduced value of your car do to the accident. You usually need to get a diminished value appraisal and submit it to the insurance company.

I contacted my Progressive Insurance and they didn't seem to know much about it and said they don't provide that coverage. So, tomorrow I'm going to contact GEICO. Both accidents were by GEICO drivers and they were at fault.

Sorry to hear that

Change the wheels to some good looking aftermarket ones...the stock wheels are just...stock looking and not terribly exciting to look at at all. Once you have some sexy wheels on you will forget about the small imperfections on the car.

Your car is fine...can be much worst

I feel you, OP. Your car has lost its cherry.

As others mentioned, that does now give you a little bit of freedom, since you don't have to worry about that first door ding.

As for the DV (diminished value) claim, I can tell you that
a) it is a real thing and
2) it is a difficult claim (from what I have heard)

But if you persevere, you should be able to get something for it. Granted, it will not be as much as you think it should be, it never is, but it will likely be worth the effort.

Best of luck.

Filed the claim with GEICO. Waiting on them to get back to me. Getting some money back for the hit I'm taking on the car's value will definitely make me feel better about the state of the car.

As an FYI - Diminished value claims can only be made again the at fault insurance company. With exception to Georgia, where you can claim against your own policy.

Concept is that you seek damages for the vehicle's reduction in value as a result of the loss. Example: Two identical cars, A & B. A has no accident repairs and B does. The claim is for the value difference between the two. Simple concept but hard to negotiate and prove.

I'd guess you'll get offered $500-$750. Try for more.

Being a 2018, see if you can find a used one with no accidents for sale, and then a used with accidents for sale with similar miles and options. Most places, CarGurus, Autotrader, etc, show these based off the VIN. If not, there are free VIN lookups that will tell you. Potentially something to look into.

I would want to see at least a couple grand for diminished value. There is no way your car is ever going to sell for close to what it would have without the accidents.

Sorry this happened to you. Not your fault so they need to make you whole for the loss in sale value.

Likewise, that's how I'm feeling.

Fyi, my 2018 audi a3 was hit last yr. Replaced fender, wheel, side mirror and retouch paint on bumper & door. Totaled 3.7k in repairs. I received an offer of 1k diminished value, but negotiated to 3k (it took a while). Your M2 is worth more so...hopefully you will get more.

Good to know. Did they initially low ball the value of your vehicle had it not been damaged?

I am not sure, the DV agent didn't provide me with details on the initial offer. I rejected and the agent told me to put something together and they will review. I researched on carguru, autotrader etc for same year, options, and mileage within my area for vehicles with and without accidents. I got an average difference of 4k. Put all my findings in an excel file and they got back to me with an offer of 3k, told me it was their best, so I accepted. The at-fault driver also had GEICO.

Diminished value? Consumer rights so strong in US not aware of anything like that in the UK.

I get stressed when car is injured. But as above sometimes that first ding makes you realise it is an object that is outside all the time and MOVES (fast?!). Things are going to happen sooner or later.

I curbed a wheel lightly but no reason for me to do it and I was SO mad lol.

I found out months after purchasing my M2 that it was involved in an accident. Non-moving apparently. I had checked the carfax before purchasing and didn't notice anything weird. Until one day I brought my car in for an oil change, the mechanic was looking for the doorjam VIN sticker and noticed it was missing. He mentioned it to me because I completely missed it and said it was most likely removed for repairs. I checked the carfax again and noticed a "Serviced at Service Shop". So I contacted the previous owner and he told me that a lady ran into his car while it was parked on the street. rear quarter panel was replaced which made sense why there was a very minimal crease along the back B pillar in the paint. Oh well.
