I have driven mine today, cup2’s, dry, 8-10c, without rear traction I kinda like this way…

(As I said, I forgot how sticky it was last summer.)

Got BMW Spec Michelin PS4S in 275/35 and 255/35. Slightly larger. Love that it covers the wheel gap a bit. The tires are quieter and smoother then the OEM PSS. Looks right without the tires looking super stretched in the stock config.

I’m debating tire replacement right now. My original PSS still have some life in them, but I picked up a nail in both driver front and rear passenger tires.

I’m leaning towards the Cup2’s as it rarely gets below 40F in Florida, and I rarely drive in the rain.

US folks, would you trust Costco to install tires on your CS? It’s cheaper than tire rack for Cup2’s and includes installation. I’m sure it’s cheaper than the dealer. I’ve used them for other cars without a problem, but I’m much more particular about the CS, especially with the gold wheels.

$1691 installed.

Hit or miss - I have heard good things and horror stories. To me it’s not worth the gamble if you’re gonna get the experienced tech or some 18 year old who just hit his vape pen. I say spend a few more bucks and go to a local trusted shop for the install. Just my two cents…don’t risk it.

Thanks. I did end up taking it to Costco to get checked out. Miraculously neither nail went all the way through. One was a very short screw that lodged in that thick part of the tread. Th other nail lodged sideways and didn’t penetrate either. They removed both and no signs of any leaking. They didn’t even charge me for the hour they spent on it.

I’ll probably go to the dealer for the full replacement when I’m ready, but can’t say I was disappointed with the Costco service.

Yeah man they are def not all bad - just think it can be hit or miss, and even if just a 20% chance of a bad tech, I wouldn’t wanna risk that on a car like this. Even more anxiety on my other car which has carbon fiber wheels haha!

That said, a company like Costco would definitely stand behind their work and if any issues I’m sure they’d pay for it…I’m still just paranoid and it’s not even the tire replacement it’s everything else that could happen when in a potentially careless persons possession that spooks me.

My local tire shop lets me pull in, pull out, uses my sockets with protection, torques them to spec, etc. worth an extra few bucks for me

I get my cup2s and RE71rs tires from Costco. I haven't had any problems. If you've got frozen gold wheels then keep in mind that it's difficult to match, but possible (I've had mine touched up). If this concerns you, then take it to a dealership. Take photos of each wheel ahead of time, and inspect before leaving dealership. Black wheels are easy to match. Costco also has a crazy good warranty surrounding nails, etc
Cup2s are great above 50F and dry. If you never drive in rain I see no issue. I've been a cup2 fan boy since getting my CS. This past weekend I was being too aggressive on a fun onramp in the rain. The rear end started to come around. Probably wouldn't have been an issue with ps4s or contis. Just keep it in mind. You really have to be conscious about the cup2s and the weather. Beyond that the feel and grip are fantastic. The RE71rs is also a great tire.

Now that I have a set of dedicated track wheels I'll probably get the ps4s next time as my daily. Data suggests it's a great tire. Lasts a couple of laps on track, which means it likely holds up really well on back roads.

I’ve got the PS4S* on the M3 Touring, put the same on my first year F80 M3 as soon as I could (it needed every bit of help it could get on traction) and PS4S N coming inbound on the 992 T. Great handling in dry, wet and cold weather, and virtually no tire noise. Unless I’m going to shift to summer and winter tyres (which I won’t bother doing in Sydney), I’m sold on this tire.

This time the nail got my rear passenger side, no chance of saving it. I’ve been quite happy with the PSS, but wondering if I should go Cup2 all around?

Florida warm year round weather but we do get some freak thunderstorms.

I’m at 8,600 miles, so I think I can get away with just replacing the PSS rears at this point.

Go for cup 2s but yeah you don't wanna get caught out in moderate to heavy rain with standing water on those, especially if they're on the rears

Where in Florida? I'm moving to Orlando in about a month

Thanks, I do want to see the difference with the Cup2s.

I’m just West of Tampa in Clearwater.

I prefer the PS4S.

The cup2's are harsh and unusable in conditions the PS4S tires handle well.

Neither likes the cold but I've run the PS4S tires on the track in the wet in 45-50 degree weather when there was no chance I would ever get enough heat into my R compound tires. They did well.

I ordered 4 PS4S.

My rear Cup 2 Connect are dead after 2000 kms. Front are 50% I would say. I love Cup2 and I would have ordered the 2 rear tires if we were in June… but as the Autumn is coming I think it’s a good opportunity to try PS4S on the CS 👍

I have a question :

The tires dealer told me that he can ordered the front PS4S with the BMW star rated. Rear tires will be non star rated. Do you know which BMW is equipped with those 245/35/19* PS4S?

Thx in advance!

The star rated PS4S are for a different model.

Easy to check the specs on Tirerack, and you should do that because they are quite different.

If you need to unload your front Cup2's, send me a DM, I might take them off of your hands if the date codes and depths are good.

Thank you for your response.
I can't access the site because I live in Europe and I believe I live too far away to send you these tires, unfortunately. 😄

I took a pic of how they look. PSS were worn on the inner side. Cup2 are worn in the middle.

So very good new for MPS4S enthusiasts : I just found that the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S 245/35ZR19 (93Y) XL * is the dedicated FRONT tire of G42 M240i…

It may have been developed for the g42 but it was designed to work as part of the full g42 suspension tuning. This means it hasn’t been developed to work specifically with the f87 suspension tuning. The MPS4S* 245/35-19 may or may not perform better on a f87 than a generic MPS4S 245/35-19. What’s your plan for the rear where no *spec tire is available? I’m currently running 275/305 generic MPS4S on my f82 (as well as MPS4S installed on my f22 m240ix with 225/245 and two e92 M3s with 275/285). They outperform the f8x PSS* and they perform as expected from a Max Performance summer tire. I’ve also had 265/295 MPSC2 installed on my f82 and, on the street, the performance of the generic 275/305 MPS4S is 90-95% of the performance of the 265/295 MPSC2. Also, the generic MPS4S grip doesn’t fall off with heat cycles whereas the PSC2 grip falls off fast with heat cycles and you end up with a tire lacking grip with a lot of tread depth left. Generic non-*spec MPS4S are great tires and work well on E & F gens that don’t have MPS4S* tires developed specifically for these cars.

You’re probably right… plus the M240i is heavier.

Personally, I find the Cup 2 tires are excellent when it's hot, but they wear out very quickly, are quite noisy, and a lot of gravel gets thrown against the bodywork. So, indeed, for open roads, the PS4S seem more suitable, even in their standard version.

On my previous BMW M3 F80 Competition, I switched from the PSS to the PS4S. I remember the difference in the rain compared to the PSS was impressive.

I really do enjoy the cup2s on a nice summer day but I just moved to Florida. I can barely drive my m2 and instead and pretty much limited to my E92 rn because of how much and how random the rains are. I'm thinking to switch to ps4s. Any ETAs on when the pss5 will become available?

What's the community's thought on keeping cup2s up front with ps4s/pss5 in the rear for better wet/cooler temp traction?
