It actually tucks really close to the side and barely overlaps the radiator. I doubt it would rob much air from it.

Yeah the afe style one doesn't stick out too much, so it doesn't block air flow from the kidney grills as much. The eventuri one takes up like a quarter to half the kidney grills.

Probably wishful thinking, but IATs always increase under hard braking from reduced airflow across the FMIC so maybe this will also keep a little more concentrated flow moving into the intake. I just need to go look at my Evo3 pics to make sure I have clearance. You can pick them up for $50 right now, so worth a shot! Thanks for the heads up. |

I know the MILVS are proven when I built my engine I was going to use them, I had a few concerns tho and wanted to see how they progress. I was also going to do the exhaust cam swap but my builder talked me out of it.

In terms of the exhaust cam it's not available yet, if you're talking about the n52 exhaust cam then yes your builder was right to talk you out of it. The results behind those cams were sketchy and imo probably don't offer any gains. But the modified cams that Marty is working on should be legit.

Yeah imo the n52 cam doesn't give any gains, and it was the guy testing that provided the shady data. He likely switched tunes afterwards.

Also, interested in the findings on the scoop, I have the eventuri one - I doubt it does much, but fluid mechanics isn't my thing

I also recommend getting a crank seal plate as well, just incase water makes its way down to the serpentine belt and causes it to slip. It is an unlikely occurance but it could happen.

It’s a nice cosmetic upgrade as well, and I wondered if either style was also a simple engine temp bang for the buck upgrade compared to other cooling alternatives being thrown out. |

Personally I prefer the Malo industries one: https://maloindustries.com/ or on ebay (still sold by them) for less https://www.ebay.ca/itm/N54-N55-Cran...-/174465721785 I think it is less on ebay because their site should be in CAD as well. Ok the reason why I prefer the malo plate is because: 1) The tabs are a bit more reinforced than VTT meaning it is stronger 2) The tabs are round so it is easier to position, whereas the VTT plate is more oval. 3) comes in silver, I personally don't like anodized finishes because I've had so many poor anodized parts in the past and they flake. 4) Comes with good hardware - i.e. stainless bolts (won't rust whereas the grade 12.9 alloy steel VTT bolts can rust. It only needs to take 30 nm of torque iirc so such a strong bolt is not needed), and loctite 5) CNC aluminum like all other plates. Overall I personally prefer the MALO plate, as it is also made in Canada and I like the guy who makes it, but the VTT plate is a good choice as well and it would be a close second for me. I do not personally like the Kies plate because of the mounting ring, not all bmws - especially the n54 has the recessed crank seal. Most of the time the N55 and s55 does have a recessed seal but if your car doesn't or the seal is not recessed enough then that can cause an issue. So I rather not pay double for a mounting ring that may be more of a concern that a benefit.

Just a little sneak peak Before the major indepth article about why crank seal plates are needed, what causes failures, and why I like the malo one the best - this will be a long read but imo worth it.

I used the AFE scoop on my F20 m135i which has sealed air intake lower box. Effects on m2 may not be as noticeable as M2 lower part has an extra hole in it to allow more air to flow. Scoop may not be as effective on m2 n55 as it would be on f2x n55 https://www.2addicts.com/forums/atta...8;d=1470416317 https://c1552172.ssl.cf0.rackcdn.com/744466_x800.jpg

Hey Gents, no data on the AFE scoop but for what it costs & the simple install its certainly worth a try imo.
As for the GTS vented bonnet i am certain it helps with cooling, the amount of heat you feel coming from the vent is proof its more than cosmetic.

I'm getting more interested in the idea of the vented hood b/c they also look great. Thoughts on if the CS or GTS style would flow air better and let less water in? |
