Bought a new M2 that has been sitting inside a storage for a year.

Greetings from Bangkok.
I recently purchased a left over 2018 M2 from my local dealer with a great discount. I was originally going for the M2C but the price difference after the discount on standard M2 is hard to pass (The M2Cs are sold strictly at the MSRP). The question is should I do an oil change right away? The service menu indicated that the car would need an oil change in August 2019, but this car has been sitting at the BMW storage for a year already. The car only has 7 miles on the clock, so it was pretty much left untouched. I would also considered switching to new tires since the oem tires might have developed flat spots from sitting for that long.

While I am not a BMW expert I can throw some advice to you. What is the cost of an oil change compared to the assurance your starting off fresh? The only way to truly know your oil is optimal is to send off a sample.

Change the oil. Condensation and age are not doing the engine any favors. It's cheap insurance.

As for the tires, give them a few hundred miles before you spend all of that money. They may recover.

Congratulations on the new car!

Agreed. Oil change costs relatively nothing and has nothing but upside. My car is now sitting untouched for it's first winter this year, and I will change the oil in the spring after 4 months of hibernation. Any gasoline that was in that car is garbage too, hopefully they added some sort of stabilizer to it, but if not you can expect a rough go the first tank. To be honest, I would likely ask them to siphon it out and refill with fresh petrol.

You should get a free oil change. BMW recommends a low mileage change one year from the production date.

I would definitely change the oil and have the tires checked.

Bought a new M2 that has been sitting inside a storage for a year.

For the best peace of mind I would recommend changing the oil, siphoning the old gas, and checking on the car battery. After that, drive the car around first as the tires may be perfectly fine as-is. Enjoy the new car!

You have Ultimate Care right? Tell them to change the oil and do a quick once over on it.

Be aware that your M2 still needs it’s 1200 mile service.

You will need to change oil, transmission and differential fluids after break in period, which for me was about 1200 miles. After you drive it some, the computer will tell you when to do the break in service.
I'm not sure if they filled with anything specific for break in, so I wouldn't change it.

Question is: was it a BMW dealership? I find it strange that they would let a car this expensive sit there for a year.

So, at 1,200 miles the car will call for its first service - lots of threads on this but it is an oil change and dif fluid change NOT Transmission (unless you pay for it). Also, if DCT, launch control is enabled.

So drive the car for those 1,200 miles and have that first service done. Then you are all good. Tires will be fine.

Yes, this was at a BMW dealer. The M2s (and all other M cars) just don’t sell well from where I live. The msrp for the car is like $180K USD so most people opted for similarly priced 718 Caymans which are considered as supercars there. That’s how a few of M2s are left sitting for a long period of time.

Holy crap. I could almost buy a Ferrari for that kind of money here.
Enjoy the nice did over there. We eat crap over here but we have cheap cars.
