It's official: keeping my 2017 M2 (MG) - Gave up my M2C spot

well, I was first in line at my dealer for a M2Comp. Gave up number 1 allocation to somebody else...just to see and read about the M2C. Allocation 2 came up for me recently. Ive passed on it - and passed on the M2C - and will continue to love my 2017 Mineral Grey M2. Im sure the Comp is awesome. But so is my OG MGM.

I think you made the right decision. The M2C will be a superior track car but as a daily driver the M2 is great. I have no plan to sell my M2.

I don't believe it's worth it to actually go through all the trouble to "upgrade" to a basically same looking car. Yes new engine and new interior but it still is the same car.

Now If you are buying into m2 world as a net new owner, then def. go with M2C. you will be fool to buy m2 og unless offered a good chunk off.

Some fools dig the aural satisfaction of the original, not to mention the tidy muffler tucked away neatly...Oh and the 437Ms....and the non-unibrow kidneys....plus the 3450 lb curb weight.

I do want to drive one, though. I'm quite happy with my OG M2 with a Dinan Stage 4 set-up, but there is nothing like actually knowing what you are talking about, and I don't. I can guess, having driven the S55 in an M4, but as to the M2C all I have is a somewhat educated guess.

Other than the new mirrors I think it's worse looking and sounding so I wouldn't trade either.

Although TBH the upgrades in your sig really are necessary to put our babies on par with the M2C.

28k miles in 1.5yrs and still loving every second in this thing. Remus exhaust next year will be the final piece I think.

Agreed. Turbo/tune/downpipe gets it to approximate stock M2C power levels. Exhaust components enhance already nice sound of N55 which isn't (subjectivity) possible on S55 no matter what downpipe, midpipe, exhaust you throw at it.

In a hypothetical world where I trade for the M2C, essential aftermarket mods include a stage 1 tune (to delete the detune), exhaust (to delete that cow udder), and wider rear rubber.

So to me, the M2C is not out-of-the-box complete. Thousands of dollars would need to be spent to get it to my liking, just like the original.

Are people not automatically ordering their M2C's with M Perf Exhaust or is it not out yet? OG M2, at least in Canada, was nearly ordered with MPE 100% of the time.

Of the pics I've seen on the M2C board, all are with stock exhaust.

An MPE for the M2 comp isn't out yet and it's looking more and more likely that one may never come out with new laws for exhausts in Europe in place.

I have also decided to give up on my M2C allocation and will pass. As an M2 owner, the M2C is simply not a big enough upgrade to me. From what I have read, it is simply an engine swap with no changes to the suspension. Even the interior is 99% the same as the 2018s. In addition, the M2C is 125 pounds heavier than the M2. When I buy new cars I want to feel a noticeable difference.

Instead of shelling out cash in 2019 for the M2C, I will wait for the M2 CS version in early 2020. I may also consider the Porsche 718 Cayman gt4 if available with a PDK or the 992 911 Carrera. I just want a car with a noticeable upgrade than the one I have now.

Damn seriously? Not super surprising. I was genuinely shocked when I got under my M2 and found... nothing at all except the downpipe cat. It's straight out all the way to the muffler. What an amazing exhaust considering it's OEM. With a high flow catted DP this thing really breathes. It's a shame it won't be offered--but I can see why. It's BMW doing aftermarket and nailing it.

Dealers were ordering it with the MPE as mandatory for 2016 and 2017, including all lot inventory. If you don't have it, that's pretty whack. It's amazing.

Ah the great dichotomy. You need more rubber because of all the new power. But then you get bored of the power and want more playfulness, so up the power goes. Now you can't get that power down so you need more rubber... and.. it never ends. I think 275 on MPSSs are the sweet spot. The conti's aren't good. But you don't want to eliminate all playfulness.

$400 fixes that gripe pretty nicely...and you still get to keep the gooey center (N55)
