Oh don't worry. It'll happen when you least expect it. It was pretty quiet for a while, and then in the last 2 weeks it's been stupid I've had a pimped out GTR (flames and all) give me a thumbs up and try drawing me into some hooning, an SS Impala damn near kill himself trying to catch me, a 135i (pretty sweet looking car!), c7 Corvette that sounded like ass, F86, GT350, blahblah. I thought black would blend in, but the attention gets old. Even got pulled over for no front plate last Monday and the cop let me go with an "I know car guys hate the front plate law, but I'll give you a warning. Get it fixed!! ...By the way, nice ride".

I might drive the Q5 for a few days...

I was wondering about that. The c7 is about the same size, by measurement, as the M2c, but c7 looks much bigger to me in person. The c8 is a full 6"+ longer and 3" wider than that.
Anyone here actually see the reveal in person?

Wouldn't get too hung up on the $60k as it's the base price. Add the Z51 package (which is a must IMO) on the current C7 and price jumps $5k. Adding magnetic ride on the C7 costs $1,795. Then you have the trim levels of 2LT/3LT which raise the price from $5-10k, the lift system, wheels, type of seats, type of leather interior, etc. You get the point. My guess is a decently optioned C8 will be at least $75-80k, if not more. Don't think they really cut corners, they just marketed the car as under $60k which probably means it will start at $59,995.00. They will nickle and dime you from there, just like Porsche.

The C7 is a front engine traditional (old school) muscle sports car. The C8 is a mid engine car that to the lay person looks like a super car. If the reviews at the track are really good, track rats will be lining up for this car. That is not the current Corvette demographics. When the track guys want them then wanabe young enthusiasts will surely follow. Current P car owners may not be tempted because of status but those that can't afford a P car might be tempted.

Impressive, but it looks like a generic sports car from grand theft auto. Given how cheap they start out at and how common they will be I expect S-Class/7 Series levels of depreciation.

That's what I thought when I configured a 718 S. Base price is a joke.

My favorite Porsche nickel and dime....wait you want colored crests on your center caps? That another $5k

Note: I am only kidding about $5k, but yes it's extra for colored crests.

I'm almost afraid to ask how much you went over MSRP on options when you configured; a guess would be $14,000, perhaps more?

The $5k you speak of can easily be eaten up by "deviated color stitching" on the leather interior. Only $5K....Porsche, FU Ferdinand.

Don't know why I do this exercise every few months, because I already know the outcome. Get the urge to look at a 718 Cayman S, run through the configurator and always end up with a build that's in the upper $80k's. Think about it, think some more, sigh, then proceed to 'trim the fat' on options until the car has been stripped down so much I no longer want it. After several months go by, repeat said exercise.

The problem is many options are under $1k each. It’s $360 for a heated steering wheel? Well of course I do and it’s not too much. It’s $690 for black trim headlamps? Well yeah I need those....etc etc. I built a base cayman and tried to see if I could break $100k and was surprised how easy it was to hit $105k on the base model.

The Cayman has always been one of my favorite cars (obvious is obvious). The chassis is still one of the best on the planet, but I never believed the 718 warranted its price.

Now with this new Corvette release, Porsche looks like their hands got caught in the cookie jar.

Even with comparable options or pricing, or the talk of fit-and-finish, there is no avoiding this:
a mid engine NA V8 vs a mid engine 4cyl turbo.

These two engines are the antithesis of each other. Yes, electric sports cars are inevitable, but kudos to Chevy for holding on to this dinosaur engine. And when I mean dinosaur, I mean a T. Rex.

Everyone here knows Porsche makes fantastic cars, but I am very glad to see Chevy come out with this and hopefully shake things up in the sports car industry. It is good for all us enthusiasts, whether you love the new C8 or can't stand it.

Now bring on the Z06 (without the overheating).

This could also drop the prices down on the used NSX
already doing less than stellar... think an affordable mid engine sports car with similar numbers will drop those down pretty significantly.

Apparently not what many other Porsche owners think... check out this fun read: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ut-the-c8.html

Lots of bias/unconscious bias there. Marketing works!

The level of service at modern dealers is fine. The build quality will also be fine. The rest is between you and your psychologist

MSO is another tier compared to most other automobile manufacturers. Want cloth straps to pull the door closed instead of regular handles? $10k. Centering stripe on steering wheel? $3,750. Carbon fiber door sill plates? $4,750.

I've seen a number of these MSO build sheets over time and there are always one or two items that make my jaw drop.

Glad you brought up Porsche. 3 decades of 911 ownership and I have watched Porsche inflate their prices and options needlessly to a point the 911 has become grossly over priced. There I said it....a 911 owner that admits the car isnt worth its msrp. Honestly its not built any better than BMW at all.
My last 911 C4S had $23K worth of options above its msrp from full leather to aluminum handles, gages, sills, alcantara headliner, audio package, Porsche Performance exhaust, etc... The problem is the return value is horrible and those upcharges dont reflect its residual value. You might as well flush your money away. On the flip side, my new fully optioned X5 50i M-Sport blows the Porsche interior away on every level yet even with the upcharges with BMW, I am left with a opulent vehicle that almost feels like a bargain. Porsche has lost touch with its base a few years ago and is continuing to push the boundaries of obscene price gouging. Its insulting and I would feel embarrassed if I did it again at a even higher price. I just purchased 2 new BMWs in the last 6 months and a third BMW for my wife in a few weeks. I have come to a impasse that just cause I can afford to spend those inflated Porsche prices doesnt mean I will. They lost me after 30 years.

If the Porsche bug bites you and you need to try one out then buy a second hand or certified model at a hell of a discount. Better yet buy a classic 911.
