The only issue, is that with current winter weather, pretty quickly after you cleaned the car, it is getting white with the sand, dirt, thus quite visible again |

it's amazing how much of a difference a little black paint can make...
The muffler has been sanded, a primer has been put on and then matte black (satin) heat resistant paint has been applied. Very happy with the result! To early yet to report any issues with it, but will do so should there be any in the future.

It looks as though you removed the muffler for prior to painting? Are the exhaust tips easy to remove?

You can just put some plastic gloves over the tips for example, no need to remove them or the muffler for that.

Reminds me of when I painted the black aftermarket header pipes (Kerker and Bassani exhausts) on my Kawasaki Z1-R and Suzuki 1100s (had three of those; one at a time) decades ago. Used VHT paint even back then...

Brought the car in one morning and had it back the next. Most of the time was for the paint to properly dry.

This is the right solution and if you ever scratch the paint somehow, a quick spray and you're good. |

How many cans for the whole exhaust? For those using VHT, did you prime first?

I'm going with VHT High Heat, however, Rust-Oleum High Heat BBQ paint has some great reviews.

Did mine this past Saturday. Used VHT matte black; prepped with a red scuff pad and wiped down with alcohol. I mostly followed the spray instructions and did 2 light coats followed by 1 medium wet coat waiting 10 minutes in between. The vinyl gloves over the exhaust tips was a great idea. Removed it from the car and paired it with the AA midpipe while I was at it.

Has anyone painted the muffler while not on a lift or jack? Can it be painted if the car is on the ground without too much issue?
