Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Used to see a lot more Hondas, Acuras with this aesthetic but in the tristate area I feel like I see a lot more German cars, esp BMW's with the style. Maybe I notice it more since becoming a BMW owner. Trying not to use the word "riced" out bc it's racist and not making this post in an elitist way, just an observation I made the other day. I'm a firm believer in doing whatever you want to your car. |

I think its because the younger generations gravitate to that style of mods and can now afford and mod the older BMWs. Some even with the latest models. M4's are very popular among them.
Us older folks may prefer other mod styles but should welcome others into the BMW culture just the same. PS: I do question the usability, safety, and longevity of the extreme stancing, camber, and stretching of tires onto wide rims you see today. But that is between them, their installer, and etc. They certainly won't be allowed to do track days with that.

A lot of this has to do with Japanese cars that are available these days. They no longer respond super well to mods, the civic went away from its dual wishbone front suspension and Toyota’s dominance in making big power eventually evaporated when other engines caught up with what a 2jzgte could do.
I think tuning tastes have also gotten refined, even everyday average people will look at cheap mods and say “that looks like shit.” So people are more likely to ignore cheap stuff in favor of expensive looking carbon fiber, etc. so generally people with a bit more money are the ones buying these things. Also need for speed. But if you have a strong drift community where you live, you’ll still see a fair amount of Japanese cars modded in that “classic” style. Of course since drifting requires rwd and a fair amount of power, there has been lots of American and European creep into even their ranks, thanks to cheap mustangs and older 3-series’. |

Can you explain what you consider to be "rice"?

I'd say that's a Euro style more than a "rice" syle minus the e36 you posted.
Also, some confuse "stance" with "rice" and they're different. Stance is no wheel gap and trying to get your frame as close to the ground as possible - usually through excessive negative camber. FWIW, rice is more of trying to mod as much as possible with as little money as possible - typically ill fitment of parts.
