My error in the above when looking closely at the DIY instructions is that I had the pin order wrong. I had #1 in #6 and so forth. Working now

EDIT: Also as a note - the black plastic cover (to where the pins are) can be separated from where the pins are. This means you can quickly switch around the pin lay out without having to re-pin the adapter.

Good to hear! I just wrapped up the two brown connectors that come on the updated PRE LCI cars when I did my upgrade and left the two other wires in the original connector and wrapped those up too.

Pulling with my fingers didn't work either, don't get a good grip..

What's the secret?
Just give it a little tug with both hands on the outside of lens in the direction Parallel with the car. Then once it's removed from the socket, tilt the light upward so you can get under the trunk mechanism.

Anyone falling this guide. I had the opportunity to scan a 2018 M240 curious to see what the voltage settings that were set for the lights and it turned out to be 100% 0x64 instead of the recommended 13.7v found in the guide. I'm sure you won't damage anything but anyone looking for an OEM coding this appears to be the answer and this is for all of the second part of coding where voltage is changed in this DIY guide. Have any of you ran into the tail light malfunction issue after doing the LCI retrofit? Just curious.

Negative, seems to only be an out of factory issue from what I've seen/read on here. I think someone said the intermittent warning on the LCI's can be attributed to a loose ground wire. Since us Pre-LCI guys have to repin our harnesses when doing this retrofit it makes sense why we wouldn't have this problem (unless there is installation error).

Great to hear, I'm bout to pick up a pair from Schmeidman during their BF sale. Looking forward to doing this retrofit.

Just installed my new Euro Spec LCI taillights. Super easy installation, and it transforms the rear end of the car!

my Euro-spec Blackline lights just arrived today, but so did my new Android Auto/MMI box. Which to install first? Real problems over here

edit: ended up installing the tails first

Newb question. I have a US spec 2020 M2C. Currently living in Stuttgart, DE and I have the LCI US spec lights. Super bright red blinker. I really want the EU spec lights with the amber blinker. Would that just be plug and play for me? I should already have a six pin connector right?

Should be direct fit I'm considering this too but worried about the rear turn indicator error which usually results in replacing taillight under warranty

First I'm hearing/reading about that error. I may just go to BMW Stuttgart and ask for these taillights direct. Depending on their price but I can avoid the VAT that way. Still doing some research but I'll post what happens here when I'm finished.

For anybody curious, the only difference between the US and ROW LCI tails are a green optical filter for the blinker. Blinker LEDs are still red and appear red when not lit, but a red light plus green filter equals yellow blinker when in use. Just FYI.

Green optical filter covering red LEDs equals amber color for the blinker. Perfect example above. Never said anything about fiber optics.

thanks this is a relief to hear.

my right indicator basically stopped working and the right tail lights started throwing errors too. No surprise, a pinhole in my pre-lci 8 pin connector was melted as suspected.

i see many fixes where people actually split the ground wire, eg

what i notice was that the connector in that video seems to be the 6 pin connector, similar to most LCI F22 and was wondering if it's still necessary to split the ground wire to fix this problem permanently? Or if not done, is the 6 pin connector still prone to melting later down the track?

I'm using this as an excuse to upgrade my tail lights to the new LCI blacklines but understand that means i'll also have to rewire it to the 6 pin connector and wanted to know if it's still worth splitting that ground wire when i install it.

It's also entirely possible that the only reason people who do the retrofit don't get errors like the LCI cars is because they code out the warm and cold bulb checks in the process. The risk of failure or fire might still be identical, you just wouldn't see the warning.

I used this thread as a DIY:

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1405431

I just taped off the two unused wires. It's been about 3 years and no issues.

I just covered up the other ground wire and re pinned from 8 to 6 and covered those wires up too.

so the general consensus I'm getting here (sample size 2 so far) is that most people don't do the ground wire split when they go from 8 to 6 pin when getting new LCI lights. Got it.
