^This.

I picked up my brand new M2 Dec 22nd of last year.

I did the run-in service shortly there after and will change the oil once again on the 1 year anniversary.

Well, The post talks about what bmw used to do and what they do now.

15,000 might be the standard for non-M cars as I remember that from my previous BMWs. In fact early BMWs under the free maint did not even include the 1 year oil changes. You had to know to ask for them or it was two years.

Basically bmw pushed the limits and it has cost them in long term reliability.

The fact is, most bmw auto transmissions will fail at 100k miles due to lack of fluid changes.
My X3's tranny failed at 70,000.

It's funny you'd say that lol.

I did 1,200, then did 5,000. Will do every 5,000 thereafter.

Reviving this thread. I did the 1200 break-in service in September 2018. The car has now around 3,700 miles.

iDrive says oil change is due next month(!) 2/2019 or 6800 miles. Date wise it’s not even 6 months. Curious if anyone run into something similar?

I doubt the dealer will do it so soon and it’s really not needed, I won’t even bother to call probably.

I’m not sure if there’s a limit how many oil changes you get while on warranty?

Its normal, it happened to me, I did break in service at 2000km in august and got a idrive warning for service in November at around 3800km.

This is because the car was built in November 2017 so the 1 year was up and they did it on warranty wich I was pretty happy right before storing the car for winter after 2 track events

So my car was built 2/18? I bought it in June. They confirmed they did oil change at the break-in service, I guess they did not reset the counter? The break in service message did go away after they did it though.

The one year message comes up regardless of the 1,200 mile service. Meaning, I don't think it is one year AFTER the 1,200 mile service - it is one year after its in-service date - and that might not be when you picked it up

However, Banilejo , check your driver's side door jam, it will have your production month.

I have the same thing happening. Found a left over 2018 built in June of last year. I just got my 1200 mile service and it show my next oil change in June. I'll happily take the free oil change. I won't put more than 2000-3000 miles in that time.

This has to be an error that BMW is aware of but don't feel like re coding it. Unless there is something else done on the first year oil change but I doubt it since they stopped a lot of that after 2016.

Anyone have something like this for the M2? Are things like spark plugs and brake fluid covered at 36 months for us?

According to this (https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...nance/HUDIbYf8) the M2 and M3/4 are on the same schedule.

I just found out that you can transfer the maintenance in the 2018 for only $100. Cheaper than an oil change.

Idk I always like my oil to look like you can make a salad with it . I will probably drop mine every 5k. Bring it to the dealer when it’s require and half way drop it myself .

Brake fluid, spark plugs, oil and air filter was all covered for my 36 month maintenance. Not sure if it is covered in the USA, but it was fully covered here in Canada.

For me only if the car starts to pull to either direction, or with suspension adjustments. Otherwise I personally don't touch it.

I avoid potholes as much as possible, so not too many. I'm always afraid to bring a car in for alignment for fear they mess something up and it's in worse shape. The if it ain't broke, don't fix it principle.

No need to be scared, some have there cars aligned many times per year for different track settings.

rationale to change it at 5k versus the advised 10k mile interval?

are you tracking or adding a lot of miles on it?
