Had my OG M2 tinted a couple weeks ago. Shop said they tinted multiple M2s and never heard of this problem. I was a bit nervous, but thankfully no issues when I picked the car up.

I had my M2 and M2C tinted. No problems.

From the thread the other fellow posted...
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=14

If I remember correctly the amp is sitting up ~1/2" on a bracket. So please explain how water let alone enough water will travel to the amp area. If anything the rear speakers would get damaged. My M2C tint guy taped over the speakers grills, buttons and also laid a towel on the rear deck. Probably to protect himself from customers that think he damaged their cars.

It looks like they use a lot of water but they really don't.

The most likely reasons are like in the other post...

1) Defective amp
2) Water getting in from the wheel well. BTW, the vent has been in that location since at least my E36M3. So seriously doubt it's a design defect as people usually post in the "tint damaged my amp" threads

The tint guys should not have to be this worried.

Water will run down the wiring loom/harness that connects to the amp, that's how.

Also I'm cringing looking at that photo you posted. There's fluid just running down the door onto the alcantara. Any half decent installer would take more care to protect the interior, like so:

More than one way to fry this amp, lol.

There's a vent located in the underside of the rear drivers side wheel well. Water can get in if you stick a hose or pressure washer up there. I would imagine it could also probably happen if you ran over a large body of standing water pretty quickly.

Looking at the picture I linked to, I "would think" water would fry the airbag module (if that's what it is) before reaching the amp.

Looks like your tint installer is even more anal than the guy I used and looks like a good idea.

Re my picture, I get more water than that getting in and out of the car when it rains. I mean it's water and a couple drops of dishwashing liquid. Not going to sweat the little stuff especially the synthetic alcantara.
