I like the system so far, but the cold start is just obnoxious. And having to lightly hold the throttle for about 30 seconds to cancel it is pretty annoying too.

I'm going to install the Dinan muffler when it shows up (hopefully January) and see if that combo is livable. But I have a strong suspicion it will be way too loud for a DD, so I may end up putting the stock cat back it. That would be handy for service/smog anyways for the time being.
It's the mid pipe that makes it that loud not the down pipe
I'm actually going to try and run some tests on that in potentially February. Once I have all the parts available to me, I want to do a standardized test with a decibel meter and video to compare between all the permutations of my exhaust.

So:

1. Full stock
2. Res delete but otherwise stock
3. Res delete and Dinan muffler
4. Res delete, Dinan muffler and sport cat
5. Sport cat and stock exhaust
6. Sport cat, res delete, and stock muffler

I think it would be good info to have for the community.
I'd be interested in the results

But from what I've gathered it's the exhaust and mid pipe that make it unbearable not the catted down-pipe itself

It will be interesting to see. Now that everything will just require clamps to change, only changing the downpipe will really be a hassle.

New update from Dinan:

I just spoke to Andrew at Dinan, who says that they currently have all the parts for the free flow muffler except for 1, which was supposed to arrive on the 17th of this month.

There are currently 32 of the free flow mufflers on back order, and I am number 2 on the list.

While I don't have a firm date when it should ship, I'm hopeful that it will actually be before the current estimate on the website of 1/21/21.

Thanks for the update, I am one of those 32 as well, hopefully I am near the front of the list.

I was just thinking about this, and I don't think this lines up with my experience. The M Performance exhaust eliminates the stock mid pipe, and cars with that exhaust and the stock cat are not even as close to as loud as my current set up is. I'm pretty sure that the cat is making the biggest difference here, but we will see soon.

Agreed. Although I don't have any direct experience, the owner of my shop (also a Dinan installer) told me the res delete mid pipe with stock downpipes and stock N55 M2 exhaust, will only marginally increase the sound, which was exactly what I wanted.

This thread has sound clips of stock vs. just the res delete:

Yeah, this further solidifies it. My cold start is nothing like that video with the res delete. The sport cat is definitely the major source of volume increase.

For kicks I ordered the mid-pipe in December, it had a expected ship date of Jan 21st yesterday but jumped to March 26th today.

Combined with the people waiting 6+ months during 2020, I guess I should keep my eyes open for a used one, different brand, or just go to an exhaust shop like bee500 above.

@jkoral, I'm taking my dinan mid pipe off the car and putting on full AA exhaust soon (n55). I wouldn't mind tackling this project sooner if you are keenly interested. PM me

Just as an update, I have canceled my order of the res delete since I got that from another forum member. The muffler section has been further delayed. I reached out to Andrew and was told that the supplier provided piping with an unspecified spec error.

Dinan is going to try to fix the issue in house to avoid waiting on the supplier further. No specified date on when my exhaust will be ready.

This is just a mess.

Interesting, I was told this week the delayed parts arrived and the builds would start soon. No mention of more delays....maybe by spring I will get my exhaust.

Just to clarify, these were the delayed parts from the supplier that are supposedly out of spec.

So the news we have isn't necessarily different.

I really might end up waiting more than 6 months for this exhaust.

FWIW, the M2 res delete is now in stock and shipping (just got the UPS notification).

The exhaust still shows estimated March 26th.

Update from Dinan as of a few minutes ago.

The part they are attempting to modify from their supplier need to be drilled (it's still not clear to me how drilling an out of spec piece of pipe is going to fix the issue) and their drill (I'm assuming a drill press) is now down and needs spare parts.

I'm just about done with this constant stream of bullshit and excuses.

With a new expected date of March, I am looking at roughly 8 months of delay to get this exhaust. I don't know what the hell is going on at Dinan, but I'm rapidly losing interest in finding out.

I am going to try and get the exhaust from a private party, Dinan doesn't deserve my money.

Just another update as I feel compelled to keep the most current information available to the community. I emailed with Andrew this morning and he says that the factory is currently looking at a production date of 3/10/2021. Assuming is this correct, we should see shipment of the exhausts starting this month.

Since I am number 2 on the waitlist, I expect to have my exhaust sooner rather than later. I am going to try and find someone with a previously built Dinan exhaust to get some measurements taken so I can make sure that the new exhaust is built correctly after all of these delays and issues.

After a mere 231 days I finally have a tracking number! The shipping label has been created for my exhaust, and it's coming by next day air.

Just received my tracking number as well, no next day air for me though, haha. Good luck with the install!
