Front number plate holder
Hi,
Due to the curved front bumper, for those that need to show a front plate, it seems a holder will be required to mount the plate to a flat surface. See pic attached, will these come with the M2 and will they be available in different sizes? |

Three years ago, moving near the border between two states, I chose to live in the state that didn't require front plates!

This gave me an "oh, s*!" moment but fortunately the state where I'm buying doesn't require front plates. So we'll toss this in the garage with all the others. <whew>

>still having license plate holders Screw it on to the bumper (EU-spec vehicles come pre-drilled, dunno about the US) or use a quality 3M tape to stick it on. |

I really hate having to use one here in Ontario. I removed it from my last car...but eventually got a ticket. Can really kill the looks of some cars. Like a Lexus or an RS5 with the nice grills.

I hope we don't get those aweful plate holders over here, i've already told my dealer not to screw on any plates at the front as i'm going to use 3M tape to fix to the front bumper.

Yep,there is no way you can get away from having a front licence plate in Ontario. The police are looking for it and you will get a ticket. At least with the E46 M3 BMW painted the front licence plate holder in the colour of the car.It looks way better than just plain black plastic.

So can we clarify or not if these are fitted at the factory or will they be supplied to the dealer to affix? As i mentioned before i don't want it on so do i need to insist in the production stage that it is not installed?

I've bought three cars in three different no-front-plate states in the last 10 years and it's always been a spare part they handed me. Confirm with your CA -- it's definitely a dealer-installed item, not a factory or port install.

If i get pulled over, i just keep the plate inside my car, show the cop and tell him i'm waiting for the dealer to give me my bracket. I drive away and no ticket, same story has worked for 20 years and never a ticket |

Washington State requires front plates. I put mine on after I was ticketed because it was absent. And I have been sorry ever since... Looks terrible, and the dealer did a serious hack job to mount it.
There is an outfit that makes front plate holders that can be mounted 'non-invasively'. I may go that route, or risk being stopped and keep the plate and hardware in the car hoping that will fend off a fine. Figure that if you are stopped for an unrelated reason, you will get ticketed for the plate violation and end up stuffing some money into the State coffers. |

I kinda wish the US would adopt the European license plate design. I seriously don't need wasted space so that it says my state.
I'm pretty sure there is a lot better way... |

EDIT: It looks like US Millworks have information (or are assuming) that the F22 M235i bumper bolt will fit the F87. Last edited by LinkF1; 02-16-2016 at 09:31 AM.. |

I got one of those tow hook license plate holders for my E92 BMW. In AZ they dont require front plates, but I moved to NY where they do so that is what I bought. Will be curious to see if this will work on the M2. No bulky bracket, just something that screws into the tow hook hole
