Auto Talent DME unlock

Just wanted to give a huge shoutout to Auto Talent for unlocking my DME. They were fast, friendly, accommodating and very communicative. I removed it Sunday night and shipped it overnight Monday morning from TX to their shop in CA. They received the DME Tuesday morning, unlocked it immediately upon arrival and shipped it back to me overnight. I got it this morning (Wednesday) installed in the car and tuned it via BM3 immediately. If you need your DME unlocked send it to them.

Nice. What tune did you flash it with? How’s the car after the tune?

I went with the stage 1 93 octane tune. It’s pretty damn fast now. It just spins right through 2nd gear. I wanted to go with a full e85 custom tune but I’m rethinking that now. I think that’d be way too much power for the stock 265’s.

Arent, you in San Jose California? Maybe a different San Jose? You should be using 91.

I think he’s from San Jose, Texas based on the initial post. Did a double take too.

I moved to TX late last year. We have 93 octane here, $1.70 a gallon.

That’s what I figured. Oh well, I’m still gonna do it. I’ll get some 285 or 295’s for her later.

OP, I have a shop local to me that can unlock the DME without having to remove it.

My plan is to take it over there Tuesday after my DP install. I'd like to have it as "ready to go" as possible. My question for you is, what all did you have to remove in order to gain access to the DME. I imagine the carbon strut brace has to come out, did you have to remove the charge cooler also?

Thank you!

My tuner removed absolutely nothing in order to access and unlock the DME. Some shops will opt to remove the top mount intercooler and a couple of other things in order to have better access.

You have to remove strut brace, charge cooler gets lifted out of the grommets and sort of peeled back but not completely removed. Driver side airbox, lots of connectors and then intake manifold. If a shop can unlock without removing anything they either have extremely small hands or are unlocking it a different way. You can just barely see the DME without removing anything it's buried that deep.

My shop took about 1 hour to reach and unlock my DME with their tool. So I got charged $125 for the unlock itself. It was their first time doing it so outside of pushing a couple of lines and things out of the way, they just used their hands to reach the DME and hook up to it.
They said for future vehicles they would probably try to do it differently by removing/pushing aside the charge cooler and whatever else.

I removed the dme myself. Auto Talent charges $125 to bench unlock it. You pay for shipping to and from.

Did you buy the BM3 from them or did they just do the bench unlock to open up OBD2 flashing?

Look around for a better price but I have seen most tuners are asking around $300 for the unlock in FL. I’m in Canada but I’ve ordered multiple things from AT - They always have the best prices!!
But if I ship to Canada direct to bm3 is for free, but I don’t want to wait that long.
