I had to get a new rear tire with 90% of tread left.
Worst yet I had to wait a week for Discount Tire to get a replacement tire. Last edited by DanG; 07-02-2019 at 10:12 AM.. |

I picked up a screw in one of my rears in my 135i factory runflat with just a thousand miles on it. Had the screw pulled and plugged, and never had a problem with it after.. Sold the car 7 years later with the tire still fully functional..

It all depends on where the screw or nail is. If it is anywhere near the sidewall, most tire shops will not repair the tire. Sounds like op and I were unlucky and got the nail in the wrong spot.

Relax.. Half that time they were off the car having used winter rubber and wheels. Car was very low mileage. Besides, its off topic. This is supposed to be about screws and nails!

The point he's making is that it's the age, not the miles that matter. Rubber ages whether it's on the car or off the car. Personally, I'd replace any tire that is more than six years old regardless of the amount of tread remaining.

He's absolutely correct, the rubber hardens and the tire no long performs as intended.

But at the same time, the shelf-life of a properly stored tire can exceed 5 years but I wouldn't pass 10 or more. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.lat...story,amp.html |
