Looks great! Is there another piece that transitions to connect to the radiator inlet area?
Also need to block off the hot air inlet hole on the side of the main piece too I think.

I do think you'll need a cover on that-- maybe the BMW one (13718507321) could be made to fit with the modified snorkel?

As is, once its latched, shes in there solid. Thanks so much! Getting there! Quote:
The other side area is an excellent question. I am making up a snap in part for that area and we will test temps with and without it. I have a screen attachement for it, looks pretty rad... but as is - a lot of work, it would be easier to do it like the BMW one. Easy to do. Will post pics of current version of the screen later today

I've got the M3/M4 parts if it would help you to use as a template. Of course, if your intake is larger than BMW's all bets are off. Just a thought as I desperately try to delay replacing an entry door handles and lock..... |

... sorry for the delay on this guys. My job got crazy once we stopped the home quarantine, and its been a bit of craziness every day trying to stay on top of it. Then I snuck in a little Champcar (Chump) racing at COTA last weekend in the blazing heat, but...
I do have some great baseline IAT data, and hoping to install the snorkel this weekend - will report back

If this project is successful, and I certainly hope that it is, you may want to look into having your project copyrighted to project your idea/project. If you succeed this could be worth big returns in the form of $$$.
Best of luck, JayHT |

DONT, it wont be worth the hassle and cash of getting any kind of protection on this. The cost of a design patent (the easiest route in the USA) is 750$. That gives you nothing except a sheet of paper that says this design is mine on date X. If someone copies you, you still need to take them to court (more $$$) and prove they are copying your design (where a small variation may be enough to be considered different and nullify your case). AND ANYWAYS, since you have already made the design public it may be hard to protect as you already made it public. (In the EU you would no longer get a patent for it).

No plans to get IP... just a fun project to share amongst fellow enthusiasts... will hopefully do a group buy (at cost) so we can all get a break on production even though the prototypes haven't been terribly expensive... but they are SLS, might want ABS or something for a final print. Will see. Data first. |

I have a PLA phone holder and now in the dryness and heat it has shrunk to the point my phone doesn't fit. ABS shouldnt have this issue though.

I also have a Raise3D Pro2 and can print in various filaments...I think Polycarbonate would be perfect.

Right now my dam arms are too big to reach in behind the bumper cover and snap off the grill. And its 100 degress in my garage... so even with fans, Ive needed lots of breaks from the heat and the constant swearing

Ok, update:
The good news - for sure you can install without dropping the front bumper. I was able to remove the radiator support and front grill with only minimal difficulty. Cutting the hole with a dremel was a bit of a process but Im sure I can figure out a way to make it easier. The bad news - The design was too large in the opening of the inlet to sit properly. So I have another version already printing. (Also dont mind the ragged hole, I just opened her up to see how much space I would really need. Now I have a template which minimizes the cutting and need to re-seal that area.)

Ok, quick update... sorry for slow progress but believe it or not, work has been insane. Secondly, I have a LOT of respect for people / teams who make their own bespoke parts. This can be a total pain, and there are a lot of issues you can not predict until you make the part and try it out.
In this case, these are the revised geometry intakes made out of ABS (instead of SLS nylon). Not to self, they are not as flexible. Also I thought I had the eyes of a 25 year old and basically made the screen setup so small to put together, that I can barely even see the screws. F that, were going with a new design (in print). In the pics you see the general idea of a snap on / screw on screen.
