Same here. The re-pairing fixed all my issues

Apple Car Play

Please feel free to express your opinions on the aforementioned. I currently do not plan to option my build with it and believe it can be added post delivery for $100- $150 more?

I agree - plus you and I spell it different Here is the thread, not sure if it will help.
http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1370386

Ultimately if you are a pure apple apps kind of person, maybe, just maybe. But your phone will be black- no going to it to turn on Waze or some other app - I think you can eventually get it to wake up, but for me, it was very hard to get it to turn on - and remember, unplugging it does not help - cause it is using the wifi in your car. SO YOU CAN'T GET TO YOUR PHONE. Ugh... I want to like it, I really do - but UGH UGH UGH.

I'm not sure if you're doing it wrong or what, but I can pick up my phone and use it while it's running car play and while it's running an app. Tested with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7+ on iOS 10.3.

For me, I use it for Podcasts and music which I could do through bluetooth but the sound quality is much much worse and the volume control is a lot worse too. They have Amazon music now too which is where I have a lot of my music stored/am a prime member for the additional benefits. I don't use the nav or anything else, preferring either Waze or the on board nav because Apple maps are worse than Mapquest.

It does the job. Plus car play is constantly being updated so it can only get better in the future and would add to resale than a car without it. $300 is reasonable. It's like 0.5% of the car cost.

In short, it's not life changing. A 2016 owner shouldn't retrofit all the components (3k+) just to get it. But it's nice from a convenience perspective for a few things.

I use mine all of the time. I wish it was better and had more but it is better with it then without it. My 4 series didn't have it.

They are thinking about implementing a feature that basically makes it go black when it is hooked up to your car to prevent you from dying while struggling with its shitty User Interface

The interface is fantastic. What don't you like about it and how would you make it better? I have zero issues with mine. It is fast, works everytime, and my phone isn't blacked out. In fact if I open messages or maps on the phone, the same thing happens on the iDrive...

It shows text messages right? For that alone it's worth it. The way older iDrive handles SMS is infuriating.

I might be in the minority as well but I like CarPlay. I'm connected via wifi and my screen is not blacked out. I'm running OS 10.3.2. I enjoy accessing my podcasts, pandora, Spotify, messages, and making calls via Siri.

I run Waze in the background of my iPhone 7 and have the alerts output to CarPlay. I use Waze mainly for police and hazard alerts.

i know, it hasnt been implemented yet. but they are thinking about making a play toward driver safety once the technology becomes normalized. and I overall thought the UI was clunky, and invasive. I dont want my texts popping up, etc. the clear advantage over idrive was the music sound quality though, it was substantially better. i tried it for about a week, then just turned it off. a good feature for the next buyer, just not for me. This is all subjective of course. I am not even a tech snob or noob, i just thought for a car it took too much tinkering for my liking while behind the wheel (or parked)

I love CarPlay. I'm amazed at the negative feedback. All I do is turn on Bluetooth and away I go. I use my iPhone heavily and this feature makes it seamless to use in the car. It reflects the features I use on my phone exactly on the nav screen. Phone, messages and Apple Music are all there and function exactly as on the phone. What's the alternative? Use the native BMW interfaces? The phone contacts, and music interfaces in iDrive stink and I'm grateful to be able to avoid them altogether. By the way I access CarPlay features with idrive controller, voice commands (texts) or on the phone itself which is not blacked out and allows full use when connected through Bluetooth. CarPlay is not an overly expensive option and I can't imagine not ticking that box unless ofcourse you're an Android user

Ohhh, that also reminds me...when CarPlay is on, I lose the ability to say "call Bob Smith". I think it reports back with "the phone book is empty"

And as an FYI, it does not use Bluetooth

I use it everyday (music and maps) and love it. Would like to see BMW integrate the iDrive wheel to zoom in and out in maps but that's about it.

Is Siri responding or the BMW Connected Drive related to your unsynced contacts?

I have found BMW Connected Drive respond when I push the voice activation button on the steering wheel and thought I had seen a video where Siri should when using CarPlay. I get around that by saying Hey Siri...

Reminds me I need to dig into the manual about that.

EDIT:

Use Siri with CarPlay

If your vehicle supports CarPlay or Siri Eyes Free, hold down the voice-command button on your steering wheel while you say what you need. If you aren't sure where the voice-command button is, check the manual for your car or stereo.

Don't want texts popping up, then turn off your notifications for that bluetooth connection. It is that simple. (open BT connections, press i, switch off) Once you figure out that all options on a screen can be accessed with the turning of the wheel, it all makes much more sense on how they designed it. I can't think of a way the menu could be better for a user while using the iDrive wheel. Touchscreen is not the answer at least not in the M2. Too far of a reach.

I think that's something different. Do Not Disturb mode just silences notifications at night. If DND Driving is similar, it will just stop your phone from chiming while you're driving.

That link also makes it sound like the option can be disabled.
