Thoughts on extended warranty?

Hi everyone,

I came across a post on one of my local forums with someone asking about extended warranty. This raised a question in my mind... is extended warranty worth it for the M2C? I plan to keep this vehicle for a long time (at least beyond the 4-year, warranty).

It will be my first true M-car and I know how expensive things can get. Despite the seemingly reliable S55, I know other things can go wrong. I'd love to hear all your thoughts on this matter. I'd also be interested to hear about anyone elses experience with extended warranties, in terms of pricing and length.

Thanks!

Extended Warranty Quote

I was quoted these prices from my local BMW (Canada) Dealership. In case anyone needs a reference:

I too am not usually one for an extended warranty, as they are obviously a money-grab for the dealer and they are charging you more than what the average car will require in service/repairs over the useful life of the car / warranty term... but my dealer convinced me to purchase a 100k mile, unlimited term extended warranty for my 2020 M2C for an additional $3,400.

Given my minimal plans for modifying the car and intention for keeping it for a long time, it seemed like a no brainer for peace of mind. Additionally, if I were to choose to sell the car down the line, the warranty is fully transferable to the next owner.

I don't have the documentation in front of me unfortunately, but will check with I get home - I believe it's 3rd party, but it was sold to me by the sales associate when signing the final documents for the car (and paying for it) ~2 weeks prior to leaving for Euro Delivery.

I know that it can be serviced for any claim with $100 deductible (after the 4yr/50k mi factory warranty is up) at ANY BMW dealership in the USA or Canada under this extended warranty, for unlimited term and 100k miles.
