You're right, it doesn't make sense, but it's a reality, and has been for as long as I can remember. Tire tech in sizing has always been wonky, and sometimes it's on purpose...

TW is really what you want to use when it comes to where the shoulder of the tire will sit compared to the lip of the fender/quarter (for rubbing purposes).

The shoulder should be the same, it's the sidewall that'll crown a bit. I imagine if you mount the tire on a wheel that's 2" wider there might be a bit of variance, but not a half inch, which is only 6mm per side, and not nearly enough to change the measurement.

You're seeing the sidewall crown a bit, not the shoulder of the tread.

Keep in mind that how stretched a tire looks is mostly due to the sidewall, and that has to do with the size of the bead (near the wheel rim). Some tires have a huge bead, some have almost a nonexistent one, and it even varies by size. Go look again and see how far the bead comes out, then crowns back towards the tire shoulder where it should be almost straight.

Notice the bead difference between the Michelin (huge) and the Avon (tiny).

That was an interesting tire test. It confirms to me my own observations about the R888. It's not a particularly good tire at all. My Elise was transformed when I went from the R888 to the Hankook RS-3 -- and the RS-3 "shouldn't" have been better. But it was.

Thanks VisualEcho for the detailed post. Any idea why there are two PSC2s for the M2 CS...one just doesn't have connect? Both are 240 rated.

I'd imagine with the price difference its the same tire minus the pocket inside to hold the connect device

That'd be my guess. Does that device connect to the car or to a phone? And, if the former, is a CS required for it to connect?

App on your phone

It will actually work on any M2

The receiver has to to be in the middle of the car

So IF it would fit, I'd Velcro it to the lid in the console so it can be plugged into the USB

Or just set it in the wireless charger. Might end up being the only time I use that thing.

True Velcro it there to that stupid battery baking phone charger

I use the rest for my wallet, sunglasses, and registration

I don't, but the current speculation seems to be plausible.

I am not much of a drag racer, but I am tempted to try it out this summer at the local test and tune. I'd imagine under 14 seconds should be attainable, right?

I have no idea that sounds slow

My buddy runs them on his 900 hp GTR

Get the Cup2s

They are pretty good even at rainy day if you have a proper control of the car.

I have the non Connect Cup2's, my car is not a daily, so I can live with them, but I'd never choose them for a daily driver. Driving in the wet is not fun, they let go really quick and at low temperatures they have much reduced grip. Whilst connects might have addressed some of these issues (????) they still have a wide shoulder which promote aqua planing.

Do you have Cup 2 180 or the Cup 2 240?

Out of curiosity what sizes are you running

Standard sizes, star marked Cup2's. Not sure on which treadwear, but they aren't the connect version.

Hardly good advice from someone with the username "kart driver." It's a prickly tire. Glad you have the skill to handle it in the wet!

Tire tech has come so far over the years. The Cup2s of today probably handle multiple times better in the wet than tires of yesteryears. Not to mention all of the nannie tech on cars now that make them much safer. At some point driving skill needs to become part of driving.

You think? This guy tried going a little fast on a wet motorway with Cup2's.

I don't know the circumstances of the accident, do you? The traction control could have been off, the car could have been going too fast, or the driver could have been a moron.

You're absolutely right, I'm just talking about the TC and DSC intervening constantly if it's a little wet outside, which you wouldn't get with the PS4S. And even more than that, as the tires start to age the PSC2 is absolutely going to get louder, and harder more quickly, so the honeymoon doesn't last as long, so to speak. It's a rich-boy numbers tire.
