I'm sorry but that bumper and the blocked off kidney grilles really aren't doing it for me. Also what source are they citing for an iM2?

No, that's just an artists impression. Prior to the fugly grilles of the G80/2 all M cars had a distinct design element for their lower front bumper that distinguish them from non-M cars. If the G87 M2 gets the more traditional grilles it's safe to expect it to follow this design element which is not what the magazine cover has depicted.

The iM2.
Similar concept to the upcoming iM4 I would assume. It's not the G87 M2.

If it has a large enough battery to have any meaningful range when driven normally, it's probably going to weigh ~4000 lbs. I'm sure the straight line performance would be fantastic, but I'd be worried about what the extra weight (even with a lower CG) would do to it when navigating corners.

The G20 has more traditional grilles yet the G22, G80 and G82 don't which is why I don't trust anything we see in spy pcs until the car is officially revealed.
There are however some clues. In this spy pic you can see the sensor is right in the middle of the bumper. If it got the huge grilles they wouldn't put the sensor there. You can see this on the G80/2, the sensor is off center to accommodate the large grilles. In this spy pic however you can see the edge of a cover concealing the front bumpers design. In this zoomed out view you can see the power dome appears to be back which may indicate tradition grilles instead of the two fake looking hood vent indentations the G80/2 get. And finally the leaked picture of the new G42 2 Series dating back from a year ago with traditional grilles. I remain optimistic... yet reserved. |
