Agree with folks who say this is a stupid argument. There is only 1 entity that can decide if a car is an M. BMW M. And guess what they call the OG?
Just enjoy the car. Ignore the haters, smile at the compliments. I got 2 while on a short drive just days ago. Not bad for a 3 year old car. |

Don't believe me? Ask an M2 OG owners if the M2/340i should have an M badge and get back at me.. What goes around... But regardless, it's all a silly practice to attaching one's vehicle to their self-worth.. It's just a machine, i.e. a mere collection of parts, there no need to put it on a pedestal, nomenclature withstanding.. |

Unless you helped pay for it, I couldn't care less how you interpret my "M" status. Get over yourself.

I guess that since BMW called the 2016-2018 M2s M cars and not M Performance cars, we should all follow suite. It doesn’t matter that it doesn’t have an S engine. A better argument would be that the US E36 M3s weren’t real M cars because their engine had 100 less hp than the EU E36 M3s.
But in reality they are all real M cars. |

The OG M2, to M2C, to M2 CS was really just intended to be the natural progression of a car being improved over its lifecycle. The fact that the S55 was swapped in for the N55 is what really puts people off, but it wasn't done to make the car "better". It was done to save BMW money. The article below is another example of a reviewer trying to disparge the OG M2 vs the M2C to boost up a car they originally own (135i). Its this BMW enthusiast politics that just keeps happening and its everywhere. Not sure if this reviewer is on here, but i'm sure if they didn't trade the M2C for a CS, they are now in the "CS isn't worth it camp" to boost up their M2C ownership. https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/07/24/c...2-competition/ No such thing as a "True" M car, just M cars and non-M cars. Enjoy driving what you own. Last edited by ScullyD; 04-16-2021 at 05:12 PM.. |

Obviously this is all silly, but IMO if you didn’t own an M2 by Spring 2017 (Dec 2016 for me), you’re all pretenders.

We should just be thankful a car like the M2 is made. BMW has been nothing short of disappointing for a solid decade yet the M2/C/CS remains one of the lone bright spots. BMW slapping M badges in front of 2/3/5/X5 etc models which were previously named 40i or 50i also makes me cherish the M2 even more.
I personally could not care less about whether the OG M2's engine is bespoke to the M division or not. Everything else about the car is pure M goodness.

It's Monday and I still love my OG M2.
So much so I just ordered Gyeon Rim to coat her recently purchased new shoes

love the 1M, M2 as well as the m2C all are the right size for driving pleasure. And up until the EL midpipe came out for the s55 i would agree the N55 , N54 sounded better and only took approx. 5 + years and the end of the s55 production run for someone to get it right. Enjoy the fact that BMW still offers an engaging German sport cars. Fingers crossed the next gen M2 carries the torch as it appears it may but will open the next debate on which is a better M2 variant.

Technical deep dive would suggest OG M2 has the sharpest responding turbo engine with S55 internals for added track reliability. Drivetrain and chassis components are also largely shared with M4.
M2C does look nicer in general though, exterior and interior wise along with a more potent engine.
