I will usually only sell a car if I already have it's replacement. Tit for Tat

If you're considering selling your car because the market has peaked and not because you need the money, to me that's a questionable reason. Unless you are an investor.

Sorry for my 2 cents

Great viewpoint and similar opinion. Need more seat time in the CS which is manual to decide if it makes my e92 DCT obsolete....but there is something about that e92 that will make me feel I made a mistake selling it regardless.

I sold M3e92 because I had at the same time M5f10 & M3e92 and just bought 911 turbo s in addition. I realized that M3e92 and 911 turbo s serve the same purpose. So I thought that one of the cars had to go.

Why do I regret selling it? Because M3 had a perfect sound, was a crazy fun car, crisp shifts of DCT and had NA V8.
It had supercharged 650 hp, ohlins suspension and AP racing BBK kit.
Whereas supercharger was questionable mod, but better suspension and proper brakes eliminated all negative sides, which OEM M3 had.

911 Turbo S turned out to be a complete disappointment as it had zero drama and fun factor was very low.
I sold it, after I bought 911 GT3 manual, which I have been enjoying every day I drive it for 3 years.

Thought exercise recently became a real decision to make. ~20k difference in price is a lot of money but when you're close to the 100k range, stretching a bit is in the realm of possibilities. Thank you HiggsBoson, msmatt and others for joining in on the discussion.
  • 2020 M2 CS - $95K
  • 2015 GT3 33k Miles - $117K

Went towards the M2 because newer car, more limited, can always add/find a 991 later, seems like a better / more fun road car based on others who have own / driven both. But damn that P badge can get you twisted.

That's really not an even comparison. A used car far outside of warranty at this point for $22k more? Apples & oranges. Sure, it's a great car, but it's even more than a $22k difference when you factor in having cash reserves for potential repairs.

Like, sure, I could get a decent condition Testarossa for $100k, but again, it's not a sane comparison.

To be fair, the only reason to consider it is the .1's have a 10 year engine warranty until 2025 and it has taken a hit on most of its depreciation. Which can be a good thing.

Just purchased the M2 CS from out of state which will be parked next to my .1 GT3. Just wanted to say that I’m super excited and can’t wait. It will be transported from CT to CA.

I'd go Porsche unless you have back problems. My plain old 997 was by far the best and fastest vehicle I ever owned. But it killed my back if the trip was too long. Hence my move to BMW.

Congrats! The perfect driver’s cars quiver! Post a review of what you think and how the 2 cars compare when you get some more time with the car.

GT3's are hard to enjoy on the road, they are so darned fast and competent, really you can't do much at US road speeds or slightly more. Can you daily this car, yes, but I think you can get away with more in the CS.

From a technical perspective the GT3 kills the CS:
  • 9K rpm redline, and when you hear that motor shift there, the hair on the back of your neck stands up. CS, is better than F80, but this motor doesn't sound great.
  • PDK is much better than DCT, really feels like a clutch that you control with your hands. More rev and slip, shifts better and you can do a dual paddle pull to rev the engine.
  • I think the ride is slightly better in the GT3, firm but supple. CS is much better than recent M cars, but still not like the older stuff.

The CS looks great and the steering is really bright, so it just works around town and all the carbon is beautiful plus you don't have to deal with Centerlocks although they aren't really that bad.

The perfect combo is both..... but one can't have too many cars in my opinion.

I do like your comparison and I have to agree.

I do own and the CS and the little 718 GT4

CS is so refined, so polished, so easy power delivery compare to the GT4.

The GT4 is far more visceral, raw, you have to work it and rev it for power delivery.

On initial steering input/steering rack speed I would say the CS is a tad faster/quicker

The way the GT4 takes corners blows my mind, the speeds are insane, so plan ted, no body roll, its unbelievable, the PDK suits this car so well, the best box ever.

I love them both, CS as DD, GT4 for the better weekends.

Thanks! - i'm not expecting any different on the M2 CS in terms of driver feel when compared to my previous M3 CS which i had for 2 years. The shorter wheelbase on the M2 CS will be the most obvious and biggest difference which usually equates it to a more agile in corner entry feel. I'm just glad I'm going back to a much smaller car.

In regards to my GT3 ... honestly it's hard to put words around it. It's a race car out of the box that redlines to 9k.

I currently have 991.2 GT3 manual, M2CS & M2C both DCT.
The price for GT3 is equal to the price of both M2s combined. Does this mean GT3 is two times better? No!

If I had to choose just one car regardless of the price, I would again buy 991.2 GT3 manual.
If I was limited on the budget and had to choose just I car, that would be obviously M2C.
If I hade to choose one car in the range of $120K that would be 718 GT4
If I had to choose one car in the range of $120K with REAR seats that would be M2CS

Which of my cars I am going to keep for a very long time? In order of preference as a long-term keeper:
- Rover Mini 1998 (because it is very special and fun car)
- M2CS (last DCT and probably the last proper size M car)
- 991.2 GT3 (I just love everything about it and will keep it until a new 911 GT3 with manual and N/A engines, which I love visually is produced. 992.1 is not my cup of tea, unfortunately)

You can’t even find a Porsche corning speed off the track, its simply too high for the street....

i did cross shop these two cars, but... in the end, I realized that I can only live with a manual, and manual 991 gt3 was quite a bit more. So m2cs it is.

GT3 market is crazy right now, especially manual touring! Made the CS a non brained for me, especially since I could get my preferred spec. I did however also put my deposit for the 992 and hope it'll look better in person.....with the current production delays I don't anticipate ordering the car for years to come though.
