My run-in service was performed on Friday, but apparently the dealer's inventory was off and they did not have the rear diff fluid in stock as expected. They did the engine and transmission, and I will take it back for the diff when the fluid comes in. I am not driving it in the meantime, since I am right at 1200 miles.

Apparently fluids are delivered differently from parts, so they have no way to know when the fluid will arrive.

Can anyone show the invoice from their run-in service? I am pretty sure the car needs the BMW 75w140 SAF XJ+FM (part #83222282583 for 0.5L bottle) which FCP Euro actually has in stock and could ship today.

I give them kudos for not just putting in any old oil. But how can they not stock this? Pretty absurd at the same time if you think about it.

While I'm not expert, I truly feel you can drive it without fear as you were before. Just don't FLOOR it or do burnouts etc...The diff still has the breakin fluid in it and likely a lot of metal bits

Surprised they changed the transmission fluid as that's not part of the 1,200-mile service, I do it myself anyway though. #83222282583 is the correct diff fluid for all M cars.

I think you'll be fine. I wouldn't put the diff through anything beyond normal use. There's a youtube video showing the runin service. The fluid looks like it has a lot of assembly grease in it. My thought is the lubrication and heat capacity could be somewhat diminished?

They usually do stock it, and according to their inventory in the computer, they had it. It must have grown legs and walked away.

They ordered it and it isn't back ordered, so it should be in quickly. They l just don't get a definite delivery time like they do with regular parts (ie. order by noon and it's on tomorrow morning's truck) because the fluids apparently come through a different supply chain.

Good point. On my M2C it was engine and diff only.

Interesting. He told me they did "everything but the diff" and I assumed that all 3 lubricated drivetrain parts were changed at run-in, as was the case with the 1M years ago. I'll verify what they did when I see the final invoice. They had to leave it open for the diff to be covered.

Ironically, when my 1M had its run-in, they were one of the few dealers that had the MT fluid (LT-5) available as it was back ordered at the time. I had them research it in advance knowing there was a supply issue and they found a bulk container with a different part number than the 0.5L bottles and got one of the last remaining ones of those. Who knows if they ever used the rest, although for all I know all of the 6MT's may use that now.

They used to change the transmission fluid on M cars at the 1,200 mi. break-in but stopped at some point (not sure what year).

Mine is DCT, so I need to figure out the launch control process, LOL. I don't see myself doing that very often, though.

CarJunkie were you able to confirm what diff fluid and volume they used for the M2 CS break in service? Thanks!

Funny, I own my e92 M3 since new and have never done the launch control process, maybe I am too old school.....

No transmission fluid change on the CS required. I asked if I should do it regardless and they actually told me not to bother.

It's only 1 bottle. Exact amount is irrelevant, as you just fill until it reaches the top of the fill hole. If you need more than the one bottle, something is wrong.

So, for the 1200 mile service on the M2cs it is basically an oil change and diff service?

Just those 2 items? Tran fluid is basically optional?

Well, noting that the invoice for the RIS on my LCI shows they filled to with SAF-XO (I made them change it...), it's good that they held off.

It's engine oil and filter change, and rear diff oil change along with software deletion of 'run in mode' (not sure what exactly this is doing). Some people are paying to have the transmission fluid changed as well.
