M2CS versus M4C
Plenty of CS threads... why not another one
For all the discussion around the price etc, I was curious for other peoples' take around this comparison. I found that configuring out an M4C in my specs was within a couple hundred dollars of the M2CS. So assuming they are the same price, how do you compare them? There has been lots of discussion around how the M2C is a better value than the M2CS for most and the price premium "isn't worth it". And then plenty of people chiming in that if they were going to spend that much on the M2CS they'd "just buy a Cayman GTS/GT4" etc. But it really hasn't come up for the direct comparison with the M family that there is nearly a dollar to dollar match in most discussions (I recognize that incentives/deals etc will drive the M4 price down from matching in more cases than for the M2CS however). My mind is made up, so this isn't a "help me make a decision" but more an interest in how people look at this from the M2 side of the equation since it really didn't come up in the other threads.

Only voted M4C because I wouldn't pay 84K for a M2CS. However, I'd take my M2C + the extra paper in my pocket ALL DAY LONG!

Can you elaborate on your thoughts? Why is the M4C worth 84k but not the M2CS? Performance? Features? Looks? What's the differential between the two? - Totally understanding your M2C choice... and intentionally removing it from the equation for my curiosity here

Definitely M2CS due to rarity and smaller package... but I probably would not pay that much for either... my choice would also be an M2 comp for sub 60k... i mean kind of like mine

Honestly, feeling ok to spend that amount on M4C but not on M2CS does not make much sense to me. For those who complain about to the interior quality, BMW added Merino leather in the M2 CS as well as nicer CF trim pieces etc. M2 CS also comes with CF hood and lightweight 763M wheels that are a plus compared to an M4C. For those who want CCB, they can option it on the CS as well and both cars also have CF roof.. I owned both M4C and M2C, and my M2C was definitely a more fun car to drive. M4C can offer HUD and full leather but those are small details for me. If I had to make decision between these two cars, I would definitely choose the M2CS.

The interesting thing to me, is how people will pay 68k for a M2C with CF parts, and then purchase aftermarket suspension, new wheels. different rubber, a new exhaust, and some interior trim afterwards...but then wont buy the M2 CS because its "more expensive".
Think about it this way from an aftermarket perspective. M2 C with zero options in the US is 58k pre tax/fees. Now if you were to buy every single option the M2CS has. You're looking at around 20k in JUST aftermarket parts. Not including getting a tune for 40 more hp. M2CS wheels (not sure on the model number) i see people buy all the time, those are 6000$ wheels! MPerformance Exhaust: This is a 4-5000$ option In these two parts alone you've hit almost 11k worth in aftermarket addons. If you JUST did this to a Base model no exec package M2C, you're already looking at 69k as total cost of the car. And then to add on all the CF bits and then a tune. Well to be frank, you might even exceed the price of a CS. Of course there are always cheaper aftermarket options. However i see many people buying genuine BMW OEM parts because they want the quality and fit and finish. In retrospect, the M2CS is actually a steal in regards to the addons you get with the car. I would LOVE to have those style of wheels on my M2C. I just cant justify spending more than 4000$ for a set of wheels. Anything above that is just too much. |

For what it is worth I traded a M4C for my M2C. I only purchased the M4C because the wait list was TOO long for an M2. I don't think either are worth 84K. Superior leather and HUD is the only thing M4C has going for it IMHO. To me, the M2C looks better, feels faster and handles better. The M4C is too long and handles like a pig. I also didn't like the adaptive suspension. The M2C better suits my driving style and the interior build quality doesn't really bother me. Only thing I miss is the HUD.

I would choose the M2CS over the M4C or even M3/M4 CS any day! I bought an M3CS last year to replace my M2C but I just did not like it enough and kept my M2C. For what it's worth, if I were to get a new car at this time, I would go for an M2CS. You won't just get a better driving experience with the M2CS, but it would also hold it's value much better than an M4C, IMO!

I voted for the M2CS and have an M2C on order for ED in September. The M2 is a much better car, and I have a base M4. The only thing I'll note is that the M4C and the M2CS cannot be compared on price. Sure, the sticker may be the same at $84k, but nobody, NOBODY pays anywhere near that for an M4C. 10-12% discounts before massive credits/incentives are very common. This means an $84k M4C usually goes for just below $70k. Add on the lease rates, and the M4C becomes compelling, even at the sunset of its model life. That's not happening with the M2CS.

Easy no-brainer choice for me, M2CS. The rarity and LE along makes this the obvious choice. Now if we look the driving experience, any version of the M2 has been a better performance driver than its equivalent M4. However, if your use case is more aligned with grand touring, luxury and tech, then the M4C may be a better choice. But if GT is top of mind, you wouldn't really go for a more track focused CS anyways.
sdhotwn are you able to share where you found $3.5K for the 763M wheels? I've been looking for a better price on one, especially without the cup 2 tires. Bummed I missed Sun Motor's deal when Brian was around

Also found a place that didn't look like cheap knock offs, but I wasn't sure that it was true oem either - europeanautosource.com, gold wheels are 3890, blacks are 3310. Last edited by sdhotwn; 06-27-2020 at 09:55 AM.. |

I didn't realize when I first looked there that the "sets" included tires too. They don't seem to have the 19x10 rears listed, just the 20x10, but I didn't dig much. Prices are definitely good though.
