Let me guess - Chicago and their infamous "parking tax"?

If you live in the city, proper, you'll get a parking ticket for something at least 3-4 times per year. They'll get the f*cking ruler out and ticket you if 1 wheel is more than 6" away if it's a slow night... No plate and parked, even in OHare or Midway garages, and you might as well put a red flashing light on your car.

Suburbs are much more lenient. I'm sure to get 1 tomorrow now that I'm tempting fate, but I've been pulled over once in Bartlett (let me go w/a "warning"), and once in Schaumburg ~15 years ago. Other than that, no probs.

When I go to the city in the Audi, I use the tow-hook plate mount. It works if it's more of a parking issue.

Also, what color is your car? The all black Sox plate on a black car is actually really low-key and almost cool looking.

That's all I got... Now prepping for my ticket tomorrow
I think the other thing for me is avoiding calling unnecessary attention to myself and giving law-enforcement another reason to pull me over. Look, our cars are not cherry red Ferraris or similar exotics, but it is a sports car, and if you're flying through a speed trap with other cars, I don't want not running a front plate to be the reason that I get picked out of the pack.

I have had mine with no front plate for over 17 months and have not been stopped once out here in the suburbs. I notice 90+% of the BMW M cars and Porsche’s around here do not run with a front plate. I was a little hesitant at first, but so far so good.

I luckily live in a state that doesn't require front plates.

But man I hated living in one that did. The sheer amount of money I spent on no front plate tickets back in the day..........sheesh.

Hey guys, digging up this old thread. I actually bought the M2 Sto-n-sho for my G30 M550. I want to mount it under the front bumper and I am hoping it does not interfere with the ACC camera. I went with the M2 solution because it seems to be the one with the closest profile, meaning the shortest prongs that plug into the square quick release metal box. I am happy enough with how it will attach from a sticking out standpoint. It's about an inch out from the bumper.

I plan to keep the plate on as little as possible, but I do think I will have it on from time to time at high speeds. I know most of you in this thread said don't worry about drilling, but I am hoping the tape will be enough. The trouble is you don't know until it is too late and may cause damage, but my OCD really does not want to drill a hole in the under side of the bumper.

What complicates it more is that my nose is wrapped with a clear bra. I can feel the seam underneath where I would stick on the hardware. Half would be adhered to the wrap and half to the paint. Besides falling off, I am wondering if over time, the weight would pull the wrap down? How strong are wraps adhered to cars?

Any and all comments welcome, please. I am holding this in place in the pciture.

If you really won't be using it much, I'd recommend a USMillworks with the quick release; you can swap it out in just a minute or so. You can also just carry it in the trunk, and if stopped use the 'oh, I forgot to put it back on' routine. If you stick w/ the stoNsho I would not trust adhesive on a wrap without screws; I think the wrap clings moreso than having a strong adhesive.

I'll share my experience as a MA resident (north suburbs). I ran no front plate on my first BMW from 1996 until I sold the car in 2010. 125K miles daily. Pulled over twice (speeding), never received a single front plate ticket. Only "attached" it for the yearly state inspection.

Although I have the Carbonio mount for my M2 (and it looks/works great), I'm not currently running a front plate.

What I do have is MA RMV Number Plate Permit which I keep in my glove box. It indicates "PLEASE KEEP WITH YOUR VEHICLE REGISTRATION UNTIL
REGULAR PLATE IS DELIVERED." It has an effective date of March 20th and an expiration date the last day of November 2021.

For the small cost of $10 online, I mark my front plate as lost/damaged. They email me this form and I keep it in my car.

I never street park in the M2, so I suppose you could potentially get more parking tickets, but I'm sure they would be voided on appeal if you provided a copy of the number plate permit.

Here's mine (with all the identifying information removed), address, plate, title number, insurance company, etc.

Thank you for this. I'll definitely explore the $10 option. I guess this still doesn't stop them from giving them a reason to pull me over which is the first priority. If I'm coming home from a wedding or a work event, I surely would like to avoid "where are you coming from". "Have you been drinking". " how many". Not that I'm ever over the limit but that won't stop them from putting me through hell first. Been there.
