I'm coming from the wonderful S65 in my e90M so maybe I'm more in tune with engines that howl (b58) vs shriek (s55).

I also really liked the steering feel vs the M2 and the simplicity of the a single sport button. It feels sooo eager to kick its ass out in sport mode which makes it a ball on the street.

I was 2 seconds away from pulling the trigger before my wife reminded me to test drive the M2 before making my decision and the availability of a manual + rear seats really pushed it over the edge. I think the m2 is the better car, but the Supra with a manual would be REALLY tough to beat as a toy.
Those same reasons are exactly why i ended up buying a M2C instead of a Supra back in early 2020. I really do miss having back seats. The MT not so much as thats the reason i traded the car away, and i'm just spoiled with my S2k in terms of how good the MT is in that car. I do however miss having M buttons. I loved being able to go from Normal, to Sport, to Sport+ all with the push of a button. I wish the Supra had that option.

Oh and this is me I've since moved from Ohio to Irvina California and love being able to drive these things more often: but I'm looking to pick up a BMW M2 CS becuase I'm starting to really enjoy the brand and want to see what more they have to offer seeing as how it's clear now Toyota can't really do it for me.

Yeah but my older Supra would eat an M2 for Breakfast But I'm still going to go ahead and pickup a CS I just wish they had more offerings on color choices.

Are you still running a rotary on that? Or swap?

For what it is worth, the '21 Supra w/ 382 HP and the '19 M2c posted nearly identical C&D lightening lap times.

I think the Supra designers were SNL fans...

This is what I think of when I see the Mk V Supra. I can't be the first!

Hahaha, yeah the MKV definitely is a look that only appeals to some people. And honestly i prefer that. To me it makes the care more special, and it also means less people in general will buy the car. You think driving an m2 around is rare? Try one of these. In the 3 months that i've owned mine, i've only seen 2 on the road, and in my area i see an M2 Competition about twice a month easy.

I think i might have seen some of your posts on the Supra forums.

M2 CS is going to be a beast of a machine for sure. The adaptive suspension is easily going to solve a lot of the stock suspension issues some people have with the Competition model, and i hear it just seems to be even more of an aggressive car for the track.

Honestly part of me kinda wants to get another m2 Competition, but its hard to justify as one of my cars already has to sleep outside and due to COVID i barely drive as is.

Cross shopped M2c and the Supra (had many BMWs/fun cars and all were 6 speed) so this is my first auto.

I was actually surprised how fun the Auto is compared to the 6speed in the M2. I say this a lot but I think the new turbo cars of these generations are just better and more fun in an auto/dct spec. I'll get an ND2 MX5 or another S2000 to scratch my NA manual itch.

The 6 speed in the M2c just wasn't fun. I think xxyion said it well in his other post where the 1-2 just isn't smooth and I spent more time thinking about it rather than just driving. And ive driven many manuals from my 1m coupe/s2000/mx5/993 911s that ive owned.

Also love the cockpit and the looks of the Supra.

But, and this is a big but, this is my second car. I have a 4 runner for my daily...if I had to get one car to do it all, I would go M2 for the bigger trunk/backseat/foldown for really usable trunk space.

I had a F80 MT for 3 years, it used the same 6MT as the M2C and absolutely loved the manual and had no issues with 1-2 smooth shifts.
Went the M340i route and absolutely hated the 8ZF although people rave about that AT... struggled with it for 9 months, sold it and not anxiously waiting for the 6MT...

I cross shopped M2 CPO, M2C, RS3, and Supra.
The Supra was far too cramped. Hard to get in and out of, and visibility was garbage.

Went with M2C, MANUAL.

Its not that it cant be smooth ever. but more i experienced that any time i wanted to give it the beans and do a quick shift i'd always get this weird jerky motion from the car.

Sure maybe its me? However i've only ever owned 2 AT vehicles in my life and i have a LOOOOONG car list so pretty sure it was more the car than my driving ability.

While i agree the ZF8 is nothing to write home about in most applications, i find that Toyota tunes it differently in the Supra, it feels more like a DCT than a torque converter

I picked up my 6MT M2C in DC Saturday and been driving it over the weekend to TX. 1100 miles so far.
I get what you’re saying but still, I like the transmission a lot once I got used to it again. In normal drive, I use first to get it moving and shift to 2nd ASAP (low RPMs).

The Supra has a lot more aluminum panels - I hate how the M2 has all steel everything especially when even the S2000, Miata, F150 etc is constructed/designed/executed with aluminum panels. BMW simply took the 2 series body, added the flares and width and bumpers etc... Great effect aesthetically and performance-wise for sure but still seemed very shortcuttish and cheap to me for an M sports car.

The interior of the Supra does feel more well designed too... Hate how the M2 has those obnoxious and nasty side cup holder storage area that sticks out the inner doors. Also the plastic on the dash is nicer in the Supra. The LCI+ instrument cluster and speedometer area MUCH better on the LCI M2 though.

In terms of performance, the Supra is faster on the track and in a straight line... Even DCT ones. 0-150 and also Nurburgring, VIR etc. -and gets 25% better MPG! Notice better steering feel in the Supra too - feels a lot more natural and responsive instead of overly heavy and dull. And to top it off, the Supra's Ride quality is much more superior in almost every aspect... Toyota really tuned it well and it's far less harsh than the M2 while performing better overall. Those are my observations...

Keep in mind that the M2 is based on a 2013 2 Series platform. The Supra and Z4 are mid 2019 so more than 6 years newer tech. Yes, BMW cut costs by borrowing parts from the M3 and not redesigning the platform but was able to bring it to market much lower $ than the M3/M4.

Really interesting to see what the weight of the new '22 2 series and M2 will be like now and how they use aluminum instead of steel in certain areas
