question about launch control

I've tried it only once but it was just to check how to do it and I didn't passed the first gear.
Because it is in manual when launching, do I need to transfer between gears myself or will it turn to automatic immediately after launching?
In my former A45 it acted like that. Moved to automatic automatically.

Thanks

You have a DCT right? If that is the case, it is going to shift at redline automatically, you do not need to shift.

Forgot to mention that it is a DCT but I thought it will be obvious from the question

Thanks a lot!

Can you just list the steps

Like do you need to turn traction control fully off?
Or put into sport plus ?

How do yiu use the cruise control to increase rpms?

Hold down traction control button for a few seconds to go to DSC OFF mode, put car in manual mode, hold down brake, press gas to the floor.

It will rev to 3500rpm. Use the cruise dial on the left of the wheel to drop rpm by 500.

Launch control is only available after driving 6 miles.

Also, when its hot out you might only get use it one time and then LC will be locked out for a while.

I played with mine recently and it did not shift when it Hit the red line... it banged of the rev limiter till I pulled the paddle... in my AMG I launch it and it shifts on its own.

My conclusion is that I'll need to figure it out myself

Thanks

I've never heard of auto shifting at redline. In fact I remember it bumping the limit last time which triggered me to shift myself. Hmmmm.

You'll have to shift manually since you are in the manual mode, otherwise you'll just run up against rev limiter.

There's a lot of misinformation in this thread. You do NOT have to shift automatically. If you DO shift any gears, or stop absolutely flooring the accelerator pedal it will not shift for you. I've done launch control many times and it's easy to accidentally stop flooring it. It will shift until you let off or shift it.

Maybe it's my bad English but I'm a bit confused from your message.
What do you mean by "You do NOT have to shift automatically"? I shift manually. The car shifts automatically. What am I missing?
Bottom line, if I do this properly (I know from other cars that if you do not floor the throttle paddle, launch control disengages), will it or won't it shift automatically?

I checked 2018 and 2020 owner's manuals. Both say it shift automatically. And everytime I've used it, as well as every youtube video I've seen shows it shifting automatically too.

You adjust the cruise control while it's bouncing off the set limiter.

Sorry, not you, that was my poor writing. It shifts for you when you do launch control. I see that's been all settled now.

Not really. Tires yes. Not that much different wear compared to dropping the clutch on a manual.

If you don't keep the throttle to the floor and lift off even a little it will deactivate and it will not shift automatically. That's probably what they did wrong.

Yep, I suspect letting off the throttle a bit is what I did wrong. Need to try it out again.
