If you want to competitively track the car, maybe. Otherwise, not. I do think (based on my other Ms), MPS4Ss will improve the spirited daily or recreational driving a bit over the much older tech MPSS that are standard. Not enough for me to waste a complete set of tires before they are ready for replacement however.

This is interesting if you're thinking of changing from PSS to PS4S...

Aha Christian Menzel behind the wheel: I had a nice 15 min chat(also talking about WC football, Netherlands-Germany rivalry lol)
with the driver in this video @ Parkplatz/entry restaurant @ Nürburgring a few years ago.
Very nice guy. I told him I had a 1M before my (now ex)OG M2.

He found the 1M the better driver's car, the M2 more practical but too heavy.
I agreed

Very approachable not VIP like guy( not everybody knows him, he has some other videos driving fast laps around Mendig in other cars) and his son is a pro(BMW //M? ) driver too.

A pity the missus didn't take some pictures. But he isn't 'famous', just in the in-crowd/car enthusiasts world he is. He was looking at my parked M2 when I approached him.

Cheers
Robin

Yes as an owner of both, the 1M is def more entertaining and the M2 is bit too heavy...though some people still think the G82 M4 is not heavy so what do I know

I think it's a matter of perspective, Karmic. The modern BMW's are heavy...but so is almost everything else on the market. The days of the 2300lb Civic are gone.

Ironically the M2 will beat a 1M on every track... in fact, even an M235i will on some... so there goes that subjectivr theory.

What makes the 1M entertaining, is it takes tail happy to a whole other level. That doesn't equate to fast, only fun (for those that know how to control it). The M2C does feel bigger and more stable although my experiences are years apart, not back to back.

1M is way more mechanical. And even at 50kmh/30mph it feels //M(otor)sporty already.

You have go to at least almost 8/10ths to get that feel in an M2/Comp otherwise the M2/Comp feels like a M235i/M240i with a very firm ride

But hey that's also what I like about M2/C . The Dr Jekyll-Mr Hyde factor.

Cheers
Robin

I thought about this recently, 20 years ago when the E46 M3 came out it was rated at 3,450 lbs. curb weight for the US.

If you get a manual non-sunroof M2/M2C you should be mid/upper 35-- lbs. range. So 100-150 lbs. gain over 2 decades doesn't seem really all that bad to me. Look at the weight gain in the previous 2 decades (1980-2000) and it was far worse for most brands.

What makes me laugh though is that my E39 525i has the same curb weight as the E46 M3...so it weighs less than a M2 even though you would never suspect that with its dimensions and Titanic slow steering rack Kudos to the aluminum front/rear subframes and suspension components.

Spec weights were rather optimistic in those days. My lightly optioned 2002 6MT E46 M3 was a few lbs above 3,500lb. My 2019 DCT F82 M4cs weighs almost the same as my E46, which I find quite impressive.
