It's great in my F80.
But I think the version in the family M2 LCI sounds great too.

Is the AM radio horrifically bad like in the F10 5er? I have been in 2 pre-LCI and 1 post LCI F10 and the AM radio is so muffled it's ridiculous. It has some super aggressive anti-noise low-pass filter which is even obvious on male voices.

I was also disappointed with the HK in my LCI M2 compared to my e90 M3 which sounded incredible to my ears.
So I followed the steps on the 2er forum and coded out ASD, disconnected the centre speaker and upgraded the front and rear speakers With the some ones used in that thread. Was relatively cheap and the result is excellent. Massive improvement in bass and mid range. Highly reccomended. |

All the praise for the e90/92 m3 HK system cracks me up, mainly because back in 2008 when I had my e90, I remember countless threads complaining about the quality. I think it's a carrot we all chase. The M2C HK system is decent, but a little harsh and underpowered if I had to be critical.

Sorry ... I didn't hear the question ... had the windows open and the exhaust on sport mode.
All joking aside, the system is at the lower end of average. My theory is the faster / louder the car the less the manufacturer thinks we should care about the sound system. I have a certain Italian car with the worlds shittiest factory stereo system — but you never even care once the engine fires up behind your head. |

Harsh tweeters, muddy midbass. Mids decent. I swapped for an Up7 amp, Blam carbon fiber components and audison S82 subs. Tuned it to the JBL curve and am loving it. Could use more bass but that's like horsepower... |

Utter crap, lol.
My friend's Bose system in her Mazda CX-5 is better, to give context. But to be honest, I have never experienced a car with a fantastic stock audio system. Not even the Burmester in AMG's. The best system I've experienced so far was the Mark Levinson system in older Lexus LS'. Not sure about the new ones. |

Burm in Porsche Pannie or Cayenne Upgraded Meridian in JLR BMW B&W ain't bad either. I personally find the Burm in MB to be garbage. The speaker grills are gorgeous but I was so underwhelmed by their performance (speaking for a C-Class/E-Class)

The HK is crap, and more importantly, the acoustics inside the cabin are terrible (if you want quiet, or good audio quality). The M2 is not built for this. I have tried to listen to music a few times in the car and quickly turned it off. Given all the other sounds, its not even a pleasure listening to music, nor listening to the car. So I always have it turned off and the windows cracked to enjoy the sounds of the M2 instead

Honestly I feel like it's pretty good, but it's all relative. Prior to getting my M2C my reference was my Cayman GT4. Prior to that my '98 E36.
When I got the GT4 I thought the sound system was OUT of this world. I was comparing it to my 20 year old Bimmer and it was miles ahead. Then I got the M2C, and was like "wow, this is even better!". So I'd say it totally depends on what you're coming from, but I personally love going out for a drive and blasting the music. It's super enjoyable. That being said, if you're coming from something with a high end system maybe there's a lot to be desired.

Not a fan, but that's not the reason I bought the car. Although, I would have paid a little extra for a Burmester system like my Macan had. That system was amazing!

The M2 system as others have said is ok to good for a stock system. I think the position of driver and speaker placement add to its suitability, and agree with ASD off helps. For me the very best stock sound system stock I have had was the Dynaudio in my loaded ‘05/06 Passat 3.6 4 motion from several generations ago. That car had amazing in cabin clean and non distorted when loud sound. Actually was a pretty nice vehicle for it’s time.

I like it just fine, but I come from a line of Challengers with truly shit systems. I haven't experienced better than my M2C yet. That said, it's usually turned off unless I'm cruising on the highway.

I’m on the 2018 M2. Took it out for a drive and I’ve been trying to find fault on it. I don’t find it as bad as what many says but then I’m no audiophile. I’ve purchased the Etons to replace the front and should be here in 2 months. Excited how well it’s going to become if I’m finding it “alright” now.
Hopefully code that ASD out also. Now that I’m aware of its existence, I can’t figure out which one is ASD and real exhaust sound. Last edited by vrooooom; 04-18-2021 at 07:47 AM.. |

I guess I never expect a car stereo to sound like a home system. I think the HK in the M2C is about like the HK in my 2011 135i. I listen to classic rock and it sounds pretty good, but usually I like to roll the window down and hear the S55😂
