It did the same thing in my M2. Coded ASD off and the audio improved.

My 2008 335i with the logic 7 speakers sounded way better than the HK's we have. It was one of the first things I noticed after I took delivery.
Do you have any guess which one is bigger cause for the lackluster sound, speakers and/or amplifier?
Both are weak but if you upgrade the speakers in the front doors with the plug and play focal kit apparently it's a big improvement from what I've read. I am not an expert on the subject and am currently doing more research myself so take that with a grain of salt.

2017 M2. The sound system is passable but not very good. Agree that my 2007 E92 Logic 7 (Premium Sound) was much better.

If there was an aftermarket upgrade option that was not too expensive, I would consider it.

I wish BMW would go away from H/K. Almost every other premium brand has better sound than an h/k equipped BMW. I had F80 with upgraded H/K and it still sucked in comparison to Cadillac or Audi systems that I've experienced.

This being said, I don't by M cars for the sound system.

+1 People use to hear too much background/engine noise when I was on the Bluetooth.. Two simple sound deaden strips in the door panels and I haven't heard any complaints since.. Don't underestimate the benefits of some cheap foam..

Sorry to have abandoned the thread! Yes, here is the link to the thread and it's a long one:

If you don't want to suffer through that entire thread, I detailed my stereo on my build page. It was a great DIY install and well under $1000. Many suggested the subs don't make a big improvement, I found they really helped a lot.

It's pure BS, the worst sound system in any car I have owned in recent years, particularly the amp (or in my case amps).

So far as I know, we have no equalizer in the M2 HK; just vol, balance, and tone controls. Even my 135i had an equalizer with the HK, but NOT the M2. They really cheaped out on this version.. Still, I dont find the LCI incarnation of the HK sound too bad, especially with ASD bypassed.

I find it so weird that ASD has an additional module and is not just part of the software of the iDrive unit. Mixing in analog audio, even line level, is strange these days and costs more. Like it was designed as a complete afterthought.

Is there a schematic anywhere or definition of the signals that go to the ASD harness?

If ASD was integreated into iDrive software, then iDrive would need the sensors used to create the sound or inputs from them to process. So a separate ASD module may be a weird design, but not for the reason you state.

It would not require any sensors I'm 99% sure. Everything in the car is connected via CAN or similar serial buses. There is already proof the infotainment system has access to high frequency tachometer data via the sport displays. It would take a team a very small amount of time to write the software to.do this in another thread if the system isn't resource constrained.
