exactly. the BMW website does no justice for this in their rather lacking description. downloading the app won't get you far as you have to connect to the dongle to do much other than measure G-Forces you can apply to your phone by swinging your hand around (up to 1.1 G)

$265 isn't too bad, but would rather not spend it if it isn't worth it..

thanks, glad to hear Matthew missed ya!

Check your topic! I will share info as soon as I get into it, but don't buy at that price. I have seen them go between 150-200 recently.

Thanks, it was a blessing. I am just praying everyone that really DID get hit can get back and running soon.

This is a terrific write up. I may just follow your steps with the PCD and the Xpel wrap immediately before driving home to the northeast.

Thanks for looking at the thread.

If you have the opportunity to do the PCD don't let it pass. It was a wonderful experience which was extremely fun!

And definitely do the XPEL right after so its protected returning back home!

They start off with a briefing of the on hands activities you will do on track and explain what features or performance and security you will be trying out. Normal stuff ABS, Emergency braking, Defensive maneuvers etc. They also explain DSC and other safety features.

They bring you out and let you get comfortable in the car (they set you up in a model similar to the one you bought). Once all setup in it you are ready to roll out.

Once setup in the car you head to the track and basically do multiple braking exercises increasing speed after each run and showing you how to maneuver the car while under hard braking. This was a very good experience because it shows you really how good the brakes on these cars really are. No fade after all the heavy braking we did.

After the braking exercise they take you to the small layout which includes a slalom and couple good corners so you can basically go at it. We did about 7 laps each. Here it will depend on the amount of cars being delivered. My group was three cars that day so we had more space between us. I asked the instructor if I could push the car and she said go for it.

After the track portion we headed to the open space they have for the part where they show you the effect of running DSC on vs off. This was a great exercise since it shows you how from 25mph to full throttle you are spun out immediately when DSC is off. You repeat the exercise with the system on and you feel all the features and computers kicking in to basically ensure you can still maintain the car under control while in full throttle on the wet track.

Next up is the hot lap portion where they get you in an M5 and basically swing it around like its a 2k pound car. This was extremely fun.

After the hot lap they let you pick an X5 and head over to the BMW Museum (a mile or two off the Performance Center) where you check out some nice cars they have there. You return back to the PC and take the X5 on the off road trail they have setup. This portion was as engaged as the track portion. Shows you all the features and capabilities these SUVs have for tackling off roads. Starts off with a very long portion of water which you run thru and then multiple up and down hills kicking in the use of cameras and downhill assist.

After this they serve you a nice lunch, then provide some time to check out the store they have there which sells items you can't get online or at BMW dealers

Finally they present you with you car and the person they assigned to you sits down and basically walks you thru each an every detail an feature of the car. Answers all your questions and basically sets you up to have a good baseline of how to get thru the iDrive menu easily.

I can tell you it is completely worth it, and I don't see how people order cars and don't pick them up as Euro Delivery... (edited)

If you have family in the area I would say you should enjoy the PCD and also catch up with family which is what I did since I picked up Thursday and stayed an extra day to do the XPEL wrap and then headed to Georgia and met up with multiple friends and stayed over a couple more nights.
Fixed it for you.. perhaps on your next car!

Will share what I find, I have read up on it but not mucho info. I am hoping I can actually overlay my GoPro videos with the Performance Analyser data.

The M performance Analyser App actually overlays it's own video .... you need to use a cel phone and a cel phone mount of course with it..

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/m-pe...935338481?mt=8

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...onic.bmw&hl=en

you have to purchase the App of course and also purchase the Bluetooth dongle that is specific to your phone operating system.

Agree with @zedbyers... for $265 or so for the Bluetooth dongle.. it is a darn good value. MSRP is $400 and I have seen retailers on ebay selling them as cheap as $200.

I found a track side retailer just about giving them away at $140... that makes it a near steal.

Here is an autocross video I took. Note that this overlay of video is for the Iphone... the Android version isn't quite as nice.

There is a completely different M connected drive app that is supposed to be designed to work with a GoPro .... but I haven't heard much about it since an initial press release awhile ago. here is the gopro page.... I actually have a gopro.. but I don't have Idrive on my 1M and I haven't bothered to try and use this on my X1 although it should work..

https://gopro.com/support/articles/w...idrive-bmw-app

and of course.. there is a third item.. there is a BMW M Laptimer app that can be used with the car..

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bmw-...684370062?mt=8

I haven't tried this one either.. it appears to duplicate most of the features of the M performance Analyser App and does NOT allow video to be added that I am aware of.. so it was the least appealing of the three options for me.

I am glad I did the PCD indeed, I can't wait to have the experience again like you did. Definitely want to do the M Performance Driving School at some point, so might not wait until another delivery!

Thanks for sharing all this info! I was just waiting on a base for the cellphone so I can record the video while using the Performance Analyser App. I always recorded my track days with a GoPro so thats why overlaying the data on that file would be nice, I did read somewhere that their might be works of that type on integration.

The iDrive native interface I haven't used yet but they car just passed recently the breakin service so I haven't done much to it yet.

Hopefully I can try these all out but right now I just got home and the iPhone window holder I ordered came in. My concern is that many cellphone holders out there wobble a lot which could end up making videos very shaky. The other concern was finding one that allows for a clear view for the camera. Hopefully this one is sturdy and will allow me to try it out in the next days!

I like your video! Thanks for sharing all the insights of them

That's correct! The PCD was on a Thursday so after the car was done with the XPEL wrapping I headed to GA and stayed at a friends house one day and at Warner Robbins next day.

He told us he had a spot for some pics of the cars and we headed there, beautiful place!

Thanks for you service!

Sure, let me give you a nice summary..

As soon as you arrive to the Performance Center they receive you and present you with the Team of people that will be working with you that day.

Hadn't posted about this but had Shankska help out with coding the car.

Anyone looking to do some coding hit him up, he answered tons of questions and walked me thru it while he made the changes so I could understand what he was doing.

EL BAN Would you recommend your XPEL installer? I'm about to take delivery this December and I'm planning on doing a full XPEL. You said you stayed one more night at the hotel. Did you have to switch rooms? Or did you just say you'll stay an extra day? I'll be driving from PCD to IL.

Yes, I would definitely recommend Doug and his team, see below the review I left them on Facebook and Google. I waited a couple weeks to ensure all bubbles were settled before I fully reviewed their work.

I did stay an additional night, no room switch was needed since after I setup my travel the PCD information package that gets emailed to you has links to add extra nights and it gives you steps to ensure it gets setup a way so it continues in the same room.

I reached out to Doug and his team months before taking the delivery of my 2017 BMW M2. I live in Florida and was always interested in buying the car and immediately protecting the front end with some type of wrap.

So my research started and I decided to look for places in South Carolina since I would be doing a BMW Performance Delivery with takes place in Greer, SC. I started to look for places in the area so the car would be protected for the 8+ hour road trip back. As I did my research of places for the protection I stumbled upon Doug's business thanks to an inquiry I made to another business, Wrap Kingz (George). After I explained to George what I was looking for he promptly recommended Doug and I researched a bit about Extreme Colors.

I saw all the videos on Youtube of the BMW's Doug had worked and how the BMW Performance Center uses Extreme Colors to protect all the cars they use in the Center. Finally I decided to email them and after this I gave them a call. During the call I told them I was looking to protect the front end of my new M2 for the roadtrip but that I also planned to race on the track so I also wanted something that could protect the front from rocks and chips.

Since day one they were prompt and answered all my questions. We basically had planned out everything about a month a a half before I even had my car. Since I was traveling to SC from Florida and needed to get back on the road the next day, after the Performace Center confirmed my Delivery date I planned with Doug extending my stay after getting my car one extra day to allow them to finalize the work for me so I could head back.

I handed Doug and his team the keys to my brand new baby with probably less than 20 miles on it and with less than 1 hour of ownership, this is how confident I felt about their work without ever being a customer before. They took me back to the hotel and started my car that afternoon and had it ready for me next day around 10am.

When I picked up the car I was concerned with some air bubbles it had, since my plan was going to FL in the next days and heading back to get it fixed if needed would be difficult. The guys aasured me that it would settle in about a week, it took about two but all the bubbles dissapeared.

Doug, I want to thank you and all your team for making sure my car was afe and performing such an excellent job. Anyone considering doing a BMW Performance Delivery should definitely look into getting the car done by Extreme Colors. Thanks!!!

Hey El Ban did you ever get any coating all over the car? I've read that if you get the coat u enhance the gloss of the expel film to match with the other areas that weren't covered with XPEL. Also the additional benefits that comes with coating makes you feel even better.
