How do you get rid of burbles (popcorn sounds, pops/bangs/crackles) in a 2021 M2C?

So I read something about the ECU being locked. Is there a way to get rid of the burbles? I don't want to hear those when I'm pulling into the parking structure at my work.

Note I'll have AA EL mid + remus so they'll be louder than stock, so I'm trying to find a way to delete the burbles. People have done it with bimmerlink before, but apparently with the new m2c it's locked.

Bimmerlink, not BimmerCode. I don't think the locked ECU will affect it? I'm pretty sure my 2020 is locked and it worked fine.

AK motion works for me to delete pops. I have a post July 2020 build so most likely the latest ECU.
I appreciate it's not the most cost effective way to delete pops, but it also deletes ASD and offers a cool engine gearbox temp, boost pressure gauge.

If you go into normal (non sports) mode, doesn't it all stop for your car?

My car doesn't make much racket at all in comfort mode. I switch it to that every time I pull up to the office drive. Surprised yours is different.

Confirming that my '21 (September 2020 build date) can be disabled via Bimmerlink.

Thanks, I hope that's the same with a March 21 build date. How did you feel about voiding your warranty with bimmerlink?

You must have stock exhaust then. I'll have the AA midpipe + remus race.

Except if you have a remus race and AA mid pipe, and you're in a parking structure...it can sound like gun shots.

Brought the car in for break-in service last month with custom coding of seats, lights, etc and nothing was mentioned about it at all. YMMV

I've got the M perf exhaust but not understanding why your car would pop and burble so much in comfort mode. I could be wrong but all the coding is going to do is change the sport and sport + to the comfort mode exhaust settings right? I've likely over simplified a bit but don't think there is anything more conservative than comfort mode exhaust sound levels.

Good luck with whatever you do. Personally I'd like to turn off the cold start noise. It's stupid loud for my kids and neighbors at 5:30 in the morning.

Are the cold starts painfully loud stock? A bit worried about that

Stock exhaust they aren't, but I haven't heard aftermarket ones. Depending on which one you get...I've heard yes it can be painfully loud, to the point where it makes others jump because it sounds like gun shots.

But stock...not at all.

From Stephan in regards to the burble on/off:

Hi,
BMW implemented a function in the DME software to turn it on and off and this does not affect the exhaust flap.

Kind regards / Schöne Grüße
Stephan Gauch

So it sounds like a "feature" thrown in for good measure for the full fat M2 experience. I mean it's literally an on/off switch in the app, a factory option for it that can be accessed from the iDrive would have been great.

I see, who is Stephan? So the DME is not locked for 2021?

Sorry, Stephan is the developer of the Bimmerlink and Bimmercode apps. I was curious so I just asked him if his apps would work on DME locked cars based off of his reply about burble being a function in the DME. I sent the email a shirt time ago so I wouldn't expect a response immediately. Though he does typical respond within the day, great guy.

My hope is that if his apps do work then the car is not locked.

Yes bimmerlink has the control on or off for burbles and locked vs unlocked dme doesn’t matter to its effectiveness. BimmerCode controls ASD on or off regardless of your dme manufacture date. Both apps are great and have different general purposes. Bimmerlink balanced more to diagnostics and bimmercode to coding, naturally enough. Same developer as noted above. Coding asd off sticks. And changing burble parameter to on or off also sticks. No need to leave the app on and connected to the obd.

Correct, this is easily accessible in INPA and Tool32 of the BMW Standard Tools pack as well (Windows laptop + ENET cable). Linking it into a checkbox in the iDrive would have been cool.

Just adding that Stephan has confirmed DME lock is independent from the apps' functions. The DME lock is specific to tuning only so it's not that the ECU is completely locked, just for those specific modules of power and other tuning related functions.
