Moonroof is a useless option I never use. Personal preferences vary though!

The track benefits are suspect. We're talking a 1% weight difference, and not unsprung? You'd have to be a professional driver for that to matter.

My snide comment aside, windows down and sunroof open on a good day? Tough to beat that.

Sunroof for me, please.

I'll echo others and say that I have previously owned cars with a moon roof and I enjoyed having them open, but the M2 just looks better with a slick top. It's too small of a car and the moon roof takes up too much real estate up there.

Mine is slick. But in all of the cars I've owned w/ one, they almost never get opened. For me, just a waste of money.

Ditto on the ‘only opened it twice in a year’ as other have mentioned, but also from experience no more worries of flooded interiors and mold due to clogged drain pipes or messed up rubber moldings, misaligned tracks, cracked glass etc

Stick with a slick roof. I'm so happy my M2C doesn't have a moon roof. The M2C has a small interior to start and how often do you use a moon roof? No drives hard with a moon roof open. It's better to put that money towards an aftermarket tune and get more driving fun.

I went through the same dilemma when I ordered my M2C as a slicktop 6MT a couple of months ago.

Every car I've owned since my first car - 1982 RX-7 😀 has had a sunroof. I rarely open them, but I sometimes use the tilt up for ventilation. I've never had a problem with leaks, broken cables, squeaks, they've all worked well in my experience.

Because I never open it, ordered HS, and like the clean look without the glass, I skipped the moonroof this time.

If you like them get a moonroof in your M2C, don't worry about what the next buyer would want.

Found a great deal on a HS with a moonroof. Spent 2 weeks agonizing over whether or not I should get the car or pay more for an allocation and wait 2 months.
In the end I said f it and got the damn thing. You don't even notice the look of it and I must say, tilting it open during this weather is really nice.

Wait! Our sunroof tilts? Thought it just opened and closed on the track?

Agree with this and also went through the dilemma. Ultimately, you need to go with what you like. I ended up with slick top because after 12 years with a sunroof on my GTI, I realized I never use it. The looks were a bonus.

Coincidentally, I picked up an e91 328xi Wagon as a daily/winter car and it has a huge moonroof - that I still don't use!

Go with what you like and will actually use. Forget about the future buyer.

From the e46 m3 forums and what people call a desirable setup, manual and slicktop will be the most wanted in a few years

I plan to autocross and do HPDEs. I'm 5' 9" tall. Will I be able to fit in an M2C with a sunroof wearing a helmet?
I'm 5'11". I fit in mine fine. Not even close.

I ordered the moonroof.

I don't track my cars and I like driving with the windows down. And I like the option of extra natural light.

If the weight really slows down a 400 hp car that much I'll just tune it haha

On the E46 a slicktop is definitely a desired commodity. But I think part of the draw there is their relative rarity. M3's ordered for dealer stock were typically pretty loaded. Only if you placed a factory order were you likely to get a slicktop. I wonder what the take rate is on sunroofs on the M2/M2c? I suspect they're much more common.

Just get whatever you want and drive happy. There's no wrong answer on this one.

I think the slicktop is particularly good looking on Hockenheim and white. However, I can’t at first glance tell if there’s a sunroof on blue or black units. I opted for one on my blue car and I don’t regret it at all. It brings a lot of light and makes the vehicle feel brighter and larger than it is.

I agonized over getting one for that very reason, but decided against it. You are right, on HS a moonroof is much more contrasting and pronounced.

I think a fantastic solution would be to wrap the roof in black. It goes away immediately with the look. Win/win.

The M2C roof opens fully and tilts. While they call it a “moonroof,” it’s what I’ve always known to be a “sunroof.”

The difference is glass (moonroof) or metal (sunroof).
