Insurance Premium Increase (CA)
Hello. Did anyone else notice an increase in their insurance premiums for the year 2021 in California?
Thanks. |

No not mine. I've had 3 partial refunds now as part of the insurance relief from my plan. If i recall correctly, totaling about $150-200 for 2020

That’s interesting.....my monthly premium with AAA jumped from $182 to $214 and the rep I spoke with said it had something to do with CA labor rate/law changes that went into effect 1/1/21.
(2020 m2c) Thanks for the feedback! |

Interesting - my auto insurance with USAA doesn't renew till June but I've reduced my miles driven down to 2000 (not much more lower I can go - but 2017 with 8k miles on it...)
USAA has given rebates in 2020 but they have NEVER ONCE reduced my auto insurance as I've gotten older - its only gone up Will be shopping around if there is a big jump in June |

My premium went up as well. Used to be 113/mo now it's 134/mo...I'm with Progressive. I thought it was due to my 'no fault' accident (speed limit sign bounced off my hood), but guess not since everyone else's premiums went up too.

Insurance companies use a strategy called “back of book pricing.” They sign you up with a low rate and then they raise your rate a little bit each year because they know you’re not likely to leave. It has nothing to do with macro market factors like “labor laws.”

I left AAA this year because they raised the rate on my M2 by $1k/year over what I paid last year when I bought it. I have no at fault accidents (only accident ever is getting rear ended last year in my F31), and no tickets. My agent said there were some changes in CA rates for Euro vehicles, but I told him I didn't believe that since they didn't raise the rate on my F31. I told him if they can't be competitive I'd be ending all my auto/home policies with them and going elsewhere (I had been with them for 15yrs).
