M2 Comp VS 996 Turbo

I recently picked up a 2002 996 Turbo 6MT and shortly thereafter our winter got real and so I haven't driven it in a few weeks and so my mind begins to wander. I hate it but I am what I am.

So prices of both the 996 and M2 are similar so I'm considering trading to the M2 comp if I don't love the 996.

I'm refreshing the 996 suspension and putting coil overs on to get the handling right, it has a tune and exhaust and I'm going to installing a numeric shifter, the car is a beast, with the tune is around 500 awhp. The fact that it's old bothers me a little but it's in very good shape.

The M2 comp has alway spoken to me, spiritual successor to the E46 M3, I love the wide body, looks, power seems right, it's way newer, plenty of mod potential.

I think the 996 will hold value better and may appreciate in value over the potential for the M2, I can see myself keeping the M2 longer but who knows.

Just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts. Cheers!

If it's an only car: M2. More functional, more modern, and you won't be dealing with 20-year-old-car problems.

If it's a second+ car: 996 Turbo. Much more engaging/visceral to drive. Already done depreciating. Mezger magic.

My friend let me drive his 996 turbo a few years ago. Eye opening experience, great car. It’s a huge exception to the whole “996 is the low spot in the 911 story” narrative.

The 996 was the driver's turbo. When the dust settles further and collectors realize there are very few with low miles and in collector condition, primarily because they drive so well and are so robust, the prices will probably skyrocket. Honestly, even well-driven ones will probably hold well. The Mezger could be good for 500k miles.

I had e46 m3 competition package
2001 996 turbo with stage 1 and bilstein suspension

Now have m2c

The 996 turbo is the most powerful car if the 3, it's an amazing driver car, i would take the 996 turbo anytime for driving hard, handling and power is amazing, but for everything else the
m2 competition is way better

In the end, i think the m2c is a better package, more tech, rwd is more fun, more space, for back roads driving it's a lot of fun too.... it's powerful and handling is very very good but the 996 turbo is more violent, the m2c is more linear

For the same price i would take the m2c

I bought my 996 turbo in 2015 and paid a low price, it was before the price rise...at around half price of the m2c the 996 turbo is an amazing car, but it's not the case anymore with the actual price

I'd have to judge the cars by the goal of ownership. If I were planning to make big power I'd lean towards the 996 because it can fit more rear tire (for actually putting the power down reliably) and my expectation of its ability to hold big power for longer between potential failures is higher.

For use as a daily driver I'd have an F87 every time.

Appreciate the input guys. I should add that I have a E90 M3 to daily, I also have a 991.1 4S I take to the office once a week. Essentially you can say all my cars are daily's but the porsches don't see our brutal winters.
