New tire recommendation for M2C

Hi everyone,

I am looking at new tires and wanted some recommendations. I don't track my car, and would be OK with a good quality tire. I don't mind getting PS4S but this tire has been backordered and I am already waiting for 2+ months now.

Since I don't track my do drive enthusiastically at times, do you guys think the following are better options for my tastes?

$1,000 approx for all tires: Hankook VENTUS V12 EVO2 K120
$1,200 approx for all tires: Continental EXTREME CONTACT SPORT

For reference, the PS4S are more close to $1,500 or so.

If you have tried out the Hankook or the Continental tire, please let me know any feedback and your recommendation.

I had the Conti Extreme Contacts on my 2011 E90 335xi after the Michelin PSS wore out. Good tires. Didn't notice any traction loss, except the sidewalls felt softer than the PSS.

Also had older version of the Hankook Ventus V12 at some point on my 2000 E39 528i with sport pkg years ago. Don't remember much about the tires except they got really loud after 10-15K miles.

I use ExtremeContactSport on my Mazda 3 and they are pretty good but not very sporty, not quite as good as PSS overall I think. I would honestly go PSS * spec or try either Advan APEX V601, PZero PZ4, or Bridgestone Potenza Sport. I have had good experiences in the past with Yokohama ADVAN series tires, usually have good steering feel. The Continentals are good enough though, I think they run them in Spartanburg because they have a deal with Conti.

Thanks, I might try out the Continental this time since I don't track. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks, I will avoid the Hankook. The M2C is already quite loud!

Yep it won't let you down unless you are picky about steering feel. The PSS or Yokohama are probably what you want if you want more feel.

Thanks,
I'm a little picky on steering feel but I can still try them out for a change, and pocket the extra $250 bucks towards a mod 👍

Based on your own needs, no track but drive enthusiastically:
Continue waiting for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, or get the Pilot Super Sport. The Michelin is just a better tire than your other options.

I'm actually keeping my eye out for the new Conti SportContact 7's.

I wouldn't hold your breath unfortunately. Continental has a weird strategy for North America it seems like. They position ExtremeContact and DWS for "aftermarket" here and only bring over the standard SportContact after a very long time or for OEM fitment. I think the SportContact 6 only recently popped up and it's been out for a long, long time. Michelin will probably have a PS5S before SportContact 7 comes in F8x M2 or M3 sizing in the US.

Some tires to look out for:

For extreme perf, Yokohama Advan AD09 is due soon and will be in M2 sizes. This tire is going to be amazing if the AD08R is any indication.

For max perf summer, the Advan Sport V107 is coming soon also and is OEM on a lot of really good cars now. It should compete well with PS4S. The main drawback is it will only come in 255/275 and not 245/265-35-19 according to their website.

I just got the new Bridgestone Potenza Sport on my Aston. Absolutely love them. Great steering feel which is of course the 4S's Achilles heel. They feel very communicative. Apparently they do wear fairly quickly but that doesn't bother me. They are also really good in the wet. Overall though I love them because of how they feel. They are like an improved PSS.

If you live in a warm climate then the Cup 2 star spec 240 tyres I have on my M2 are absolutely superb. But a big no if you live in a colder climate especially when combined with rain.

Thanks, this is helpful.
I'm looking at the Bridgestone now. There's also a deal going on where I live so I might give these a try!

Tire rack has PS4Ss in stock in 255/35/19 and 275/35/19 (non BMW star version). They fit well on an M2C.

Oh wow thanks for the heads up. I want to just stick with bone stock sizes.......I'm assuming AD09 offers that?

It should, but no idea when it's going to hit the US. It's been rolled out in Asia only so far. AD09 will be like A052 with better street / wet performance I would assume.

I liked the steering feel on the Conti's, and they did better in the rain (not much though, the MPSS/4S is also a great wet tire). Supposedly better than the Bridgestones in the wet per TR reviews. MPSS BMW star spec is also a good street choice.

All,

I found this video quite insightful. I wanted to try other brands and even was considering PS4S but I want to stick to OE tire for now. As far as I can see, the OE PSS tire is a superior tire considering all situations when compared to other tires. BMW has done R&D and fine tuned it to get the best of everything for our M2C.
