I'm still waiting to order:
51487334357 (Sound insulating wheel housing rear left) 51487334358 (Sound insulating wheel housing rear right) 51487296055 (Sound insulation trunk left) 51487296056 (Sound insulation trunk right) 51471911992 (Expaning rivet (D=8MM)) I've been putting it off because it's about $200 of special order parts. I'll probably do it at some point, but thought the parts I've done already should make the biggest difference.

So I got to drive my car today and you know what I heard for the first time? Wind noise!
Initially I was disappointed with the improvement that the side panels made, because the benefits are really at high speed. I'm very happy so far, and as soon as I can afford it, I'm adding the remaining parts (hood insulation and rear arch parts). I don't think we're ever going to get rid of road noise, and some surfaces are obviously louder than others, but I'm still really happy with the improvements over stock. Thanks to all who pioneered this for the rest of us!

I have been too busy to add insulation to the trunk, but it will happen. In the interim, I am trying to understand if the parts I have added so far have led to an increase in air pressure. It's crazy annoying. It may be that what I am feeling (hearing?) was always present. Anyway, it is conspicuous. I have been reading some on the subject to understand if there are things I might do. What might be worth investigating is if the vents in the rear of the car are functioning correctly. These vent to somewhere in the rear wheel arch I believe, and some people have blocked these up to protect the amplifier from getting wet. Blocking these up would certainly cause a problem because any air coming in from the A/C system would have no-where to go.

Add me to the list of people who installed the door seals. They definitely made a noticeable difference. Even the stereo sounds better when you code out ASD. For 30 bucks it's a great mod. Thanks!

maybe it's because I come from a diesel truck and 4x4 background but m2 is pretty quiet with ASD gone, even with a fabspeed muffler bypass. I like how "raw" the car is for a 2018.
I will however take a look at these door seals and if I ever get the clean sub set-up other forum members are running i will dynamat the trunk and doors. It doesn't add that much weight to do this. I'm about to start ordering all the bits to Sound deaden my big diesel cummins, maybe i'm just use to 5" exhaust, rattling 6cyl diesels and 37" aggressive tires. But the M2 is great to drive, stock stereo sucks for sure and I daily mine

I have finally had the sound insulation pieces for the rear of the car installed by a friend who is a BMW tech as I was too afraid to break any of the trim clips.
Must say I'm very pleased with the reduced road noise. |

Just ordered all this stuff and will document changes with Radioshack SPL meter in a few weeks.
Installing better speakers too so it should all be complimentary. Ok NVM the online parts places won't ship to Canada right now and local dealer wants 2x online prices so I'll wait until the border opens. Last edited by n8dgr84; 06-15-2020 at 03:23 PM.. |

Got the pieces for the rear. Made a considerable difference any time there is lots of tire/road noise, like driving on the freeway or rougher roads. It was a bit of a pain to install properly under all the OEM wiring, but not too bad and well worth the effort. It took me a couple of hours, but I know my way around this stuff.

I did 675 miles in about 10 hours today with just two quick gas-n-go's.
For the Love of God did I screw up by not making time to take the back apart and install the two aluminum panels and the wheelwell and trunk soundproofing. This thing gets LOUD after ten hours. Yikes. Lesson learned. I'll be back home in July, which means I'll get to it in August. IF I can find a DIY. Now, hopefully the ringing in my ears calms down. |

Got them from Rudy at Tirerack.com. If your tires have significant wear on them - get the Generals (or new tires period) - trust me - you will have a *much* quieter car. The insulation in the front doors as others have mentioned work as well - I did those - it helped but my God - the tires. |

I had this type of sensation when I installed the Active Autowerke exhaust on my N55. Had extremely poor fitment from the downpipe adapter and midpipe. On highway trips it felt like pressure would build up in my ears. Everything was fixed after I had the pipes modded to not touch anything.

Action Item on Me!

Mostly in triage mode for several months. Hoping to return to the most important task at hand in two weeks: Sound deadening! The trunk insulation should get installed before too long. After that? I want to put the OEM resonator back in. Or, more correctly, correct for the resonator delete. That being said, perhaps a trip to my exhaust shop for an inspection makes a lot of sense! Certainly curious. Brilliant tip! |
