It would look fine without those two "extra" lights.
Also, comparing these two cars is highly questionable. This car should be compared to Alfa 4C, Mazda MX-5, Lotus Exige, maybe a base Cayman. |

Should have ditched the two inner lights, legacy be damned!

I think the Alpine is a very nice car. I have no interest in buying one but I can appreciate what an achievement it is. I like the (tastefully done) homage to the original too.

Next week: we compare a professionally-prepared print of Monet's Water-Lily Pond to a BMW M2C, and postulate the thesis that the BMW is totally useless for being put on display in a corporate art gallery and anybody spending that much money on a small, heavy coupé like that clearly needs their head examining. |

I love Alpine's heritage too. (Monte Carlo etc) On the other hand: Which sporty fun car has four seats, space for (a lot of) luggage and can be driven 24/7/365: M2C But! It's definitely no coincidence Alpine won Top Gear PCOTY 2018... Edit, take a look at this. The balance, the fun. I actually want one... FYI normal OG M2 was already 2s faster or so, but hey, drifting Cheers Robin |

If there's ever anything I aftermarket for the Alpine, I'd imagine someone will make a bumper cover deleting the inner lights. I understand the lineage to it, but it's an immediate turn off on a modern car to me. To each their own of course

This car just doesn't interest me at all. I've never driven it, but I have had a chance to drive the 4C many times and it just doesn't really do anything for me. Sure, it's an interesting car to look at, and just sitting in it is an event. But the combo of small 4 pot with decently big turbo/s, and a DCT is just not a great result.
Give me a GT4 (different price bracket I know) or something like a Z4M or S2000 all day.

I think comparing cars not in the same genre or price range was outlawed several posts back... Everything must be in nicely categorized, well defined buckets |

Go figure...I love the Alpine front end, in my eyes it is a perfect modern rendering of the 60s car. On the other hand I find the rear end rather uninspiring. The big issue of this car is however the lack of a manual transmission.

Where is the Z4 Coupe?
The real competitor should have been the Z4 coupe. Oh sorry, Toyota Supra. I agree that this car is not really comparable in spec or concept to dedicated sports car but at this point it is closest.
The BMW M2 is such a rewarding car to drive and is much more practical to use everyday as well. It looks amazing. It’s tech is better. It’s brand is better and is simply more 3 dimensional than 1 show pony Alpine. But this is me and I might be a bit of “die hard BMW fan” |
