DCT guys have been trying to make up this "better mated with the engine" argument since the DCT came out. It's hogwash.

If you like the auto it's fine.. just own it. It's just personal choice like color.

on the flip-side...

MT guys make themselves out to be the only engaged drivers and real enthusiasts.

Nope. That's not the same as arguing one transmission is paired better with the car. That's just being a jerk lol.

I have owned both. I prefer MT. But I can see why people prefer DCT.

It'll be interesting when the next gen if M2/3/4 are all ZF8. I see the argument getting worse as it will be a true "auto". I wonder if more will go back to MT?

I hear you. I'm not saying that.

I agree, I'm not interested in a torque converter auto. I would go back to a MT if that was the choice.

In my opinion, the only people who are wrong are the ones criticizing (in any manner) another's choice of shifting.

Mine will be MT.
It will also be a daily driver in stop-and-go traffic.
It's not a pain - that's just driving. Once you start letting the car do everything (including shifting) for you, you might as well just get an auto-driving car and sit back and read the paper during your commute.

I think that's the common misconception of most DCT owners. I don't drive DCT in auto mode. I only use that when I'm in stop and go traffic - otherwise I'm shifting.

Same for me ... don't want to shift manually in slow traffic !

They are.

Yet people keep asking the same dumb question.

Get what will make you happy and who cares what others think!

(even if that choice is to neuter the driving experience by letting a computer make your shifting decisions for you...)

6MT, three pedals and shifting, nice, all the electronic nannies interfering everytime you hit the right pedal: but Purist! Last of the Mohicans etcetera!

DCT: two pedals 'auto'box: Grandma/disabled/almost a Tesla/Are you out of your mind? You are not a real driving enthusiast!

I get it. Same old song.

I just ordered my second M2, DCT off course, because trackdays/drifting/fast driving/Nordschleife and always using the paddles.
Even in trafficjams....

Drive safe and enjoy your cars.

Cheers

So you just said "I don't drive in auto mode...except when I drive in auto mode"

Hey, I'm only jokingly knocking the choice of DCT/Auto (yes, despite any marketing hype, they are both automatic transmissions with the option to push a button/paddle manually to override the software to some degree - they do it by different mechanisms, but they are both at the core, automatic trannies). DCT and ZF auto (which is brilliant for an auto box) have advantages over MT. Driving engagement just isn;t one of those advantages.

But I agree with an above poster - if you're a DCT guy, just own it, like those people who think Austin Yellow is actually a respectable color choice.

Just a few questions
-does your car have a limited slip differential?
-do you sometimes drive with all electronic nannies off?
-do you know how to save a car from sliding/do you drift?
-do you attend trackdays/do you drive on racetracks?
-do you think you are more involved in driving with three pedals if you do not own or do the things stated above?

Just kidding but I want to keep seeing things in perspective!

Cheers

I did the same but "shifting" also isn't very involved. Just a finger flick.

Yes. But you know each forum about a car that has both options MUST have such a thread. I believe it is a forum rule.

Anyway, it our obligation, nay, sacred duty, to order a manual transmission in every car in which we possibly can for as long as we can. Which means for another few years (at least for BMW).

^ The problem is not that manufacturers like BMW offering still MT`s. No the real problem is the political system, they punish you, me and everybody else who wants to buy an MT and has to pay so much taxes that its not worth all that money, so shift (whats in a name) tot DCT !!

So the manipulation has already started, and there is no way back. Less MT selling, due to >>taxes, means no MT production on the long term.
