the term "civic" originated in 2010 to denote a non ZCP E9x M3.

Here's the original thread, watermarked into bimmerpost history. There's a reason by this thread was closed.

Yeah, it's a snobbery thing.
"Oh, you don't have a SPECIAL model, do you...your car is more like a Honda Civic than an M car..."

Not sure why this sticker pack is getting a big marketing push. They'll sell like five of them.
I'm not knocking their looks - it's not bad (it would actually look far better if they were just stripes and didn't have the stupid "competition" scribbled all over them), but only a handful of the "look at me, yes that's right, I have the latest special model M car, did I mention look at me" crowd will buy it.

But since when does a decal pack get a press release?

It's an M4 joke. Keep it over there. M2 aren't mass produced like the M3 and M4 so Don't try so hard to make it trendy for the M2.

It's like you are late to join on the joke and just desperate to use it...

So touchy, jeez. The M2 is in fact mass produced and not a limited production run anyway. What a fun guy you must be.

The M2 isn't mass produced in the quantities that the M3 and M4 are. Get it straight.

The M2 has only been made for 3 years and is gone.

They didn't even produce a regular version and a ZCP or a COMP at the same time as the regular M2.

You can't even say " i got a M2 civic " because there is only ONE VERSION AVAILABLE.

The M2 competition is the only M2 available.

So you decide what mass produced means? Where's your official definition of volume that I can look up? It's mass produced. It rolls off the line with every other car in Leipzig.

BMW had made 12,393 of them as of January of this year. Not mass produced... sure lol.

My Z4M roadster had lower production numbers for the entire run than the M2 did in year one... and it's still mass produced.

Agree to disagree. I still don't know what that has to do with the Civic joke anyway. No one could reasonably think a non comp M car is a Civic. The differences are and have always been minimal. Hence why it is a joke and no one should take it seriously.

Maybe the car with this sticker pack applied is the true Civic M2 in fast and furious style .

My understanding of the civic part is because the Honda Civic at one point mimicked bmw styling and its a mass produced car.

I assumed it was just civics are thought of as cheaper cars and the non comp version is cheaper than the comp. The poor man's F80 M3.

They made more than 11,000 M2s as pre-LCI so the number including LCI is most likely over 15,000 at least...not a "rare" car by any means but also not as common as an M4.

Even though the M2 gets a new engine it's still an M2 so total production of the M2 will end up somewhere near 25-30k probably...if including the M2C

This...has absolutely nothing to do with production numbers.

Sure sure sure... That's worldwide numbers.

Still fairly rare compared to the M3/4.

no.

taken from a 2016 article: "BMW M3, M4, M5, M6, X5 M and X6 M accounted for around 35,000 vehicles."
https://www.bimmertoday.de/2016/01/2...m-absatz-2015/

the M2 is selling 12-15,000 a year now.

the M4 outsells the M3 by anywhere between 5:1 and 8:1.

i'd say by estimate that there are more M2s being sold than M3s and more M4s then either....but the M2 is not "rare" compared to genuinely 'rare' M cars like the Z3M, Z4M, 1M, etc....if anything the M2 is one of the volume leaders of the M range---with volume being increased constantly.

It would help if BMW published detailed numbers about this stuff but to my knowledge they don't.

I’ve always hated the M performance sill vinyls but they only covered half the sills, these make the whole side skirt disappear in black. Nasty

You are missing 2017 and 2018.

I see M4's every once in awhile.

I hardly ever see M2's.

Go figure.
